Re: American Idol - Season 7
There's nothing stopping someone from doing a rock arrangement of Ring of Fire (or any other song, really), as illustrated by Social Distortion upthread, but Idol didn't even bother to do that. The version on the show was a straight country rendition. They just don't seem to care.
The only "research" necessary was to listen to the song -- that was country, not rock.

Re: American Idol - Season 7
The Ford ads aren't always directly locked to the theme, though, are they? I am pretty sure they didn't do a Mariah song for Mariah week.

Re: American Idol - Season 7
As far as I know, the Ford commercials don't necessarily follow the theme weeks.
Then again, I usually FF through all that shit.

The Ford commercials are usually more entertaining than the group sings -- which lately have seemed more lame than ever... with choreography unmatched since "Up With People" came to my high school back in the early 70's...

Re: American Idol - Season 7
Archuleta's 'stage dad from hell' has been banned from any involvement with his son's performances, thanks to his getting David to stick in Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" in his performance of "Stand By Me" - a very expensive, unauthorized hit to the AI pocketbook. He can sit in the audience, and that's it. About 10 weeks too late, if you ask me.

Does this mean Danny Bonaduce will be filling in?

Apparently nobody here noticed that.

Went right by me, which is surprising as I despise that Sean Kingston song.
Since the SK song is a rip-off of "Stand By Me" anyway, I'm not entirely clear how Archuleta can then "rip-off" SK.

Re: American Idol - Season 7
I noticed it, but was too annoyed by the whole performance to care.
