Re: American Idol - Season 7
Even if it was the best performance in Idol history, it doesn't mean that he won't screw up in the future. People have flamed out in the past after moments of brilliance.

Re: American Idol - Season 7
Add me to the list of people that doesn't really like "Imagine"
But I agree that David at least made it tolerable.

Am I the only one who thinks that Jason Castro looks like Lisa Edelstein with dreadlocks?

I agree Alex - first thing I thought when I saw him was I didn't know Travolta had a son...

Re: American Idol - Season 7
I can think of two people who NEVER flamed out and, in my opinion, NEVER had a BAD performance. Carrie Underwood and Melinda Doolittle. Last night, listening to David, I felt like he fell in their category.

- Mandisa (at this stage of the competition she was blowing folks away)
- Anwar Robinson ( "Best Vocal This Season, Right There!" -- Randy )
- Elliott Yamin ( "Best male vocalist we've ever had" --Simon )
Those are just three that jump to my mind because I was so high on them at this stage of the competition, only to be totally let down once they got into the Final 12.
And let's not forget that early on, Randy was saying it was between Lakisha Jones and Melinda Doolittle to win it all. Melinda stuck in there, but Lakisha was quickly bantha fodder in the Top 12.
I think Aaron's point is reasonable whether it happens or not.

Mandisa was not going to win -- never had a chance. Her voice was not that good. She was a shouter.
Anwar who?
Elliot Yamin would not be on my list. He came in third and he was a better singer than both Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee imho. Where are they now? Yamin had a solid radio and video hit from his album. Did they?
If Archuleta is voted out, I will eat crow. Unless he blows Disco Week, it's a lock. He'll be in the final two.

With all due respect, Aaron's comments weren't based on your personal assessments or preferences. He simply said that there have been people who've had exceptional performances in the past (I gave you some quotes that showed others -- professional talent evaluators -- thought some other performances were exceptional), flamed out later in the competition. He's right.
I did try to provide a variety of samples. Elliott did make it far, but he was never as good as he was during this stage of the competition.
Anwar who? Well, there may be a point there. Watch his performances from this stage of the competition. He did What a Wonderful World, and Moon River. Though some here didn't like one or both performances, watch the judges comments after each. Thumbs up across the board and he was on Cloud 9. Even fellow contestants regularly stood up and genuinely applauded his performances. He fizzzled out on the big stage.

i'll be surprised if david doesnt mke to the end.
the judges are REALLY pushing him.

Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers, Lo, there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning, Lo, they do call to me, they bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live...
