Re: Lost: Season Four

The only thing that annoyed me was for the entire episode I was thinking I was supposed to know who Jeremy Bentham was. It wasn't until Hurley almost said his real name that I realized I as a viewer wasn't supposed to know who it was (yet).

When they started doing the flash-forwards, I knew the dramatic tension would slack off for me as a viewer, so then, my mind works on other angles and possibilities while I'm watching the past happen, which makes for half-interested viewing investment, and it's a slippery thing to get just right, but this season's finale was about 3/4 of awesome, with just a bit of nagging "so what" due to how the story mechanics of how the Oceanic 6 end up getting off the island.
The thing is that I never once felt that way all season long. Don't know what happened this time around...

I kinda feel sorry for Locke. He just doesn't seem to ever quite get it right, and is always one step behind the course of events. He craves relevance and leadership, but always ends up way in over his head.

Of course anything is possible. Maybe he is exactly where he wants be (in that coffin.) 3 years is a long time.

Either it's limbo/purgatory or they are doing some serious chain-yanking. Christian told Micheal he could go now because he had redeemd himself.

I'm thinking S5 might be the 3 year period after getting off the island up till room temperature Locke and then S6 will be Weekend at Jeremy's starring the Oceanic Six.

Ben has a few ideas.

Walt said he didn't know why everyone was lying. Hurley told him it was to protect the people left behind.

Hurley talked to Walt before we saw the freighter blow up, and I thought it seemed pretty clear from Hurley's demeanor that Michael was dead and Hurley just couldn't bring himself to tell him.

I think, as was mentioned before, Christian telling Michael, "You can go now," meant that Michael could go ahead and die," which he wanted to do so badly and couldn't before. I definitely think Michael is quite dead and I agree that Jin is too.

Re: Lost: Season Four

It's a shame that they waited so long to bring Michael into the season because that seemed like a tale that could have been much better if they had spent more time with it. Even if they made 16 episodes as planned, I think his story would still seem really condensed. Michael didn't come back in until episode 7 and he only appeared in 6 episodes (counting that one scene return in episode 7) and a basically minor character like Lapidus was in at least 9 episodes.

EDIT: I guess the main reason why I want to think that Michael is alive is so they can actually have a story that is more fleshed out. It seems like they had the Cliff Notes version of Michael's return (and I don't think the two episodes lost to the strike would have really changed the story that much). One episode, he came back in one scene. The next episode, you saw what he did after he left the island. The next episode, he had a scene or two where he was locked up in his cabin for destroying the engines. They let him out and he blew up. This a rare occurance of a Lost story moving too fast in my mind.

Yeah, I kind of wish they had spent more time with Michael too, but they did spend an entire episode on just him. I don't know anyone else that's gotten that kind of treatment. I guess they felt like that was enough to catch us up to what was going on with him.

Great finale, as usual.

What is going to happen to Daniel...?

I'm not entirely sure I agree with this specific case, but I would definitely say the same about Eko, and ESPECIALLY Libby's backstory... as in what the hell was she doing in that institution with Hurley that we'll never get an answer to.

And what makes you think we'll never get an answer to that?

Well considering she's dead, and they're focusing on flash forwards of the Oceanic 6 it seems unlikely we'll be going back to a flashback with Hurley at the mental institution the first time, though anything's possible (I mean, honestly, who'd have thought in S1 that the island would eventually be moved... Hell who thought in S1 that anyone would get off the island before the finale.)
