Re: Lost: Season Four
Even though Kate has Aaron off the island, there is no reason to think, based on what we've been given so far, that Claire dies. She may simply still be on the island. Why Kate would get off the island with Aaron instead of Claire, I don't know, but it still doesn't mean (necessarily) that Claire dies. After all, Desmond saw her being rescued.
Or did Desmond only tell Charlie that Claire would be rescued so that Charlie would go to the "Looking Glass" and die?

I agree that there is no evidence so far that Claire dies.
Also, didn't Desmond *technically* only see Claire getting onto the helicopter? She could have been placing Aaron into the arms of someone already buckled in (Kate?). I'm going from memory here, since I'm not at home and don't have access to my DVDs.

Despite what Desmond said about Charlie needing to die, he kept trying to prevent it. Also, Desmond was able to change what occurred in his "visions", so perhaps something got changed even though Charlie died in the Looking Glass.

Re: Lost: Season Four
Question about the Desmond-centric episode of this season:
From the moment space-time got warped in the chopper on the way to the boat (for lack of better expression ok?), Past-Desmond has been showing up periocally in the present. Between his apparences, Desmond spaces out, like the comm officer strapped to the bed.
So it's like Past-Des kicked Pres-Des out of his body from the very first incident, and when Past-Des goes back to the past, there is no consciousness left in Pres-Des's body.
My question : Where the heck is Present-Desmond? Has he ever been back? Is he off yelling "I don't know you BRUTHAAA!!!" in some other corner of the universse? Was he "destroyed?" Unless I missed something, I am correct in understanding that Sayid is stuck with Past-Des (for now)?

Re: Lost: Season Four
I didn't see it as anyone kicking anyone out of anyone's body. The way I saw it was that Desmond's memories got all screwed up. Sort of like having a certain type of amnesia for certain events and when all was said and done and "he got his constant" (whatever that really means) he got all his memories back and he's alright now.

The way Faraday described it is that he thinks it's just the conciousness that is moving through time, so maybe it simply suppresses the current time's conciousness...a little Exorcist-ish.

I didn't double check but I think Desmond saw Claire and Aaron getting on a helicopter. If Charlie's actions help bring the freighter that gets the Oceanic 6 rescued and (presumably) those six people eventually return to rescue the rest of the survivors, Desmond's vision can still happen.

Interesting. I thought it was pretty clear that as indicated above, his consciousness was travelling back and forth. After each trip, the Desmond of 1998 had memories of 2004, in 1998, so information travelled to the past. That is time travel.

I don't know: We haven't seen present-Desmond since the whole thing began. All we saw was Past-Des "travelling" back and forth. Every time he leave one body, it becomes unconscious (see above).
Past-Des and Pres-Des were not swapping places. Pres-Desmond has simply vanished since the first incident, and if there was any reason to believe that he came back at the end, then I certainly missed it.
When Sayid asked "Are you OK now?" and Desmond says yes, was that supposed to mean that Present Desmond was back? When did the "return" occur? There certainly was no cue or sign of any sort.

Re: Lost: Season Four
Ah.
Apparently I did miss something:
From Lostpedia's synopsis of the ep:

After they exchange their love for each other, the battery dies out. A happy Desmond then thanks Sayid, seemingly having remembered everything. He is now "perfect".
|
"perfect" should have been my clue. Cool...
(the year is 1996 btw, too lazy to go back and edit the posts above...)

I'm looking at this as if they decide to go back to the Island, the decision is to go back and live the rest of their lives there.
So, again, the fugitive/probation stuff would be irrelevant to that decision.
However, if "going back" is just about rescuing the people left behind and brining them all off the Island, then that would be different and Kate's stuff would then be relevant in that case. But that's not how I've been feeling it. I've been feeling that "going back" means going back for good.
Home is behind, the world ahead
and there are many paths to tread
Through shadow, to the edge of night
until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow, cloud and shade
all shall fade, all shall fade

Maybe that's *exactly* why she's not interested.

Re: Lost: Season Four
I've never gotten the impression that Kate liked being on the island. The only reason she didn't want to be rescued (or so it seemed at times) was because it would likely mean her going to prison. Since she is no longer facing prison and no longer has to live as a fugitive, I can't see Kate actually wanting to go to the island to live out the rest of her days.
