Re: Lost: Season Four

This thread is great! I've seen some very good discussions on the little that I've skimmed over. I just love this show and I think that Season 4 is the greatest yet. Those who refuse to watch past Season 1, saying it's too slow moving, are not giving it the chance it deserves.

But, I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here.

Re: Lost: Season Four

I think the island time moves at the same pace as the real world time, but there is a barrier around the island that distorts time. As you go through that barrier, time changes. The timeline on Lostpedia indicates that the island date is the same as the real world date. The only inconsistency in the timeline is due to the helicopter ride that took place this season, which strengthens my point about the barrier messing with time. I'm interested in seeing what happens to the people on the helicopter when they fly back to the island. I'm guessing they will be pulled forward in time again.

I certainly don't expect anyone to remember me 65 years after I die, but you wouldn't know that from the way I act.

The problem is that that's the only time that an off island event, since the crash, has been given a definitive date so there's no way to really compare the on and off island dates.

I do agree that the barrier (which I assume keeps the island hidden from the world and kept Desmond from being able to sail away from the island in S2) is what is causing the problem with time. Based on what we've seen, the time that it takes to cross the barrier may vary depending on whether you're going to or from the island. The rocket took 31 minutes to get to the island but the helicopter took two days to off the island. When Michael left the island at the end of S2, Ben told him a specific course to take (which was different from the course that the helicopter took) so maybe the course taken determines how far off time is.

Which brings up what happens when the submarine brought people to and from the Island (s)? I assume the two islands are under the same psycoelectric constraints.

Re: Lost: Season Four

My thinking is when the hatch exploded, it brought the island back to present time. Of course that doesn't explain the delay with that missile, but perhaps the island is now retreating back to the past again.

Re: Lost: Season Four

Good episode last night, although there were one or two things I didn't understand. So, if Whitmore (Widmore?) is looking for the island, and those are his people on the boat, 1) how did that deadly gas get on the island? 2) how did Whitmore/his people know about it? and 3) Why does he want to kill everyone on the island?

Also, why did Charlotte and Daniel decide to save everyone? If they were doing that, why knock Kate in the back of the head and leave her in the jungle?

And lastly, where did The Others go? And how could Ben contact that woman Harper and give her instructions?

It seems the island has been inhabited by The Others, the Black Rock people, "the other Others" (who were fighting with the Others in Ben's flashback last year), the Dharma folks, and now, the 815 survivors. (Am I confusing groups? Am I overlapping?) That's a lot of groups. Maybe Gilligan and the Skipper are just over the horizon.

I thik Charlotte mentioned the answer. IIRC (I was eating a good ten feet away from the TV at the time) Whitmore wanted the island's properties for himself and would stop at nothing to make them his.

Which leads to another question: I'm sure Locke knows about Penny (aka Desmond's Penny). Does he know her last name and has he made the connection yet?

Re: Lost: Season Four

I loved seeing Juliet's reaction to Goodwin's death. Ben in love is a pretty scary thing.

Any scene with Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson is always gold in my book.

I laughed at two lines last night. When Ben said "This didn't have a number on it, did it?" when he was eating rabbit and when Juliet said "It's very stressful being an Other."

I'm not a nitpicker but if Kate was suspicious of Faraday and Charlotte turning her back on either of them wasn't too bright.

"The other Others" are The Others. The Others are the hostiles that the Dharma group was fighting with.

Last we saw, Richard was taking The Others to The Temple (whatever that is). I assumed that Harper was an apparition like when Locke saw Walt rather than her actually being there.

I thought Faraday and Charlotte were deactivating it so Ben couldn't use it against the freighter people and inadvertantly against everyone else without a gas mask on the island. Not that Widmore might not use it or other violent means to take over though.

I could be wrong but I don't think Desmond's ever used her last name in front of anyone. It would sound kind of awkward if he had. If you're mentioning your significant other to a person that doesn't know her, why use their last name?

Re: Lost: Season Four

I did have to laugh at the reveal of the "Tempest" station. It's a huge very visible building on top of a hill with a nice view of the ocean and the beach, about only 1 days walk away from the losties beach. Yeah, they wouldn't have seen or found that by now.

The audio cut out on my broadcast right at a key moment. Can someone fill in the blanks here? When Ben takes Juliet out to see the dead Goodwyn:

Juliet: "Why did you bring me out here? Why are you showing me this?"

Ben: "Because ____ ______ _____ _____ his wife."
