I searched and didn't notice anyone mentioning this. And it's a shame she seemed to pass without any recognition of her long and wonderful career. I only happened to notice her death listed in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly.
A wonderful comedic actress who portrayed many wacky supporting characters in a virtual cream-of-the-crop list of classic sitcoms, Alice reportedly died on September 21 due to complications from colon cancer. She was 81.
Her most recent regular role was as "Bernice" on
Designing Women but, in a career spanning five decades, she also made many guest appearances on classic shows such as
Bewitched, Get Smart, The Odd Couple, Mayberry RFD, Hogan's Heroes, Maude, Good Times!, One Day at a Time, Gimme a Break, The Golden Girls, and
Dharma & Greg and also appeared in a number of films including
Grease, Gator, and
To Kill a Mockingbird.
She was one of those actresses whom you could always count on for big laughs. Another classic comedienne is gone.
