Private Practice season 1 thread
Anyone else following Addison over to her new show, Private Practice? It starts tonight on ABC at 9 p.m. EDT.
I fear for its longevity since Tim Daly is in the cast.

Re: Private Practice series premiere 9/26/07
Nope. I watched the starter show last season and it didn't do much for me. And I gave up on Gray's last season when it went downhill. So unless either gets killer reviews this season, I'm done with that set of shows for a while.

Re: Private Practice series premiere 9/26/07
I love GA, though I thought what they did with George's character really sucked and don't know how to recover from that.
I always felt as though Grey's could have a very successful spin off.. but this wouldn't be it. This is too goofy. To be honest, I always thought the natural spin off was Karev going off to the wilderness to practice rural medicine (ala Northern Exposure but medical based rather then culture based).
But this show is kind of a reminder of .. hmm.. A Brady Variety Show ?
I'm wondering who at ABC saw this pilot and thought "wow, this will get people who want to follow!" There is not a single really likable character that you want to root for... just all doctors who you'd at best call "creepy".

Re: Private Practice series premiere 9/26/07
I watched the premier and will probably follow the show, but I am getting tired of the theme that has been carried over from GA - the bunch of whiny people who think it is "all about me". I wish the "powers that be" will start showing a little more depth to these characters.

Re: Private Practice series premiere 9/26/07
It was okay. I don't understand why they replaced Merrin Dungey in the Dr. Bennett role, the new actress didn't have the chemistry if that was the reason.
Amy Brennerman seems oddly cast, she ought to have had the lead role.
But I was distracted by The War and flipped back to see the attack on D Day. The jury is still out, but it's looking pitch black.

Re: Private Practice series premiere 9/26/07
Nothing says "entertaining" like "The Battle for a dead man's sperm".
While I wasn't blown away by it, there was some decent emotional content from some not-so-consistent portrayal of Addison handling the birth subplot. Wasn't much feeling it for the Brenneman subplot, though.
I'll give it a few more episode to find its footing, though. Addison can dance in silhouette for me anytime.

Re: Private Practice season 1 thread
Anyone feel like slitting their wrists after the switched baby subplot? Yowie.
This show is dropping on the priority viewing list, but will give it a few more episodes to see if it can find a better balance of somber and life-affirming.
