59th Primetime Emmy Awards
Didn't see a thread yet, so I thought I would start off by saying that Lewis Black is my new hero.
I loved him telling the execs exactly how we feel about the distracting pop-up ads during shows.
So far, the show has been a Bennet and Sopranos love fest.

His was quite an entertaining bit. I don't know why they had Seacrest host the show, but luckily he stayed out of the way most of the time. His routine sunk like a lead balloon whenever he did open his mouth.

Re: 59th Primetime Emmy Awards
I was happy to see Terry O'Quinn, Jeremy Piven and The Sopranos win.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Ricky Gervais win.
And I'm still trying to figure out how James Spader managed to beat out James Gandolfini and Keifer Sutherland (eventhough it was the weakest season of 24, he turned in a great performance as always).

Re: 59th Primetime Emmy Awards
IMO, television is the only entertainment medium worth anything these days -- movies have become formulaic/rehashed crap, Broadway seems to be about remaking musicals, and I gave up on the music industry years ago (which is not to say there AREN'T any good movies, shows, or albums). But television is in a Renaissance right now, and there is sooo much good TV these days it's difficult to even watch it all without the aid of DVR's and file sharing. The rise of serial dramas and single camera sitcoms has created a high bar for quality.
Which is why it is particularly disappointing that the Academy still can't get over their self loathing, tripping over themselves to nominate and award candidates who have accolades in fields outside of TV. Maybe that Tony Bennet special was awe inspiring -- I dunno, I've heard him sing lately, and his voice is clearly not what it used to be. And yet he bags award after award. If you have an Oscar and want another award, just get on a TV show, you'll get an Emmy -- it's like the academy is saying, "thanks for slumming!" And that's the problem -- when is it not going to be considered slumming to be on TV? When is TV going to be considered a real art form?
Also, I was very happy to see 30 Rock win, but then, so did Arrested Development.

Re: 59th Primetime Emmy Awards
Count me in as one of those who didn't care that Tony Bennet won. Award should have gone to Colbert! Bested by yet another singer with a one-off special. I was disappointed with Colbert's and Stewart's presentation. One critic said it reminded him of an SNL sketch that went too long. They were funnier last year when Colbert did his primal scream about being beaten by Barry Manilow. That was funny. Still, nice impromptu moment by having Steve Carrell pick up the Emmy for a missing Ricky Gervais. All in all, a blah show.

Re: 59th Primetime Emmy Awards
I don't mind 30 Rock winning, it deserves some respect, but the Office was better. Glad to see “Locke” get it and Lost in general. It’s awful that the show got overlooked. Al Gore was supportive of the Internet in its early days, but that tired old BS distortion to make him look bad will never go away as long people refuse to do their homewook.
The Sopranos was a great show and through its run, it did things its own way. I doubt HBO or anyone else will get to that level for sometime. As for Sally Field, she can say what she wants, it wasn’t anything over the top. It’s easy to forget the realities of the war, when the news is made up of Britney and company. In anycase, nobody has to care one way or the other.
