Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 4

That's the way I would play it. If it has aired then you should not have to spoiler-ize it.

that's why i'll never get why there's even an argument in the first place. BSG the new thing shouldn't even be called BSG. should've been just "inspired by" but call it somn else.

I agree that there is an element of nostalgia in the original show and that it's execution often tended to be juvenile. But the original show had some great ideas behind it - which is another reason I was always frustrated with the show, because the cute robots and 70s TV conventions kept it from realizing its true potential.

I still think the 3-hour pilot (or 2-hour theatrical movie) was a solid piece of work. Even the two-part "Lost Gods of Kobol" with Jane Seymour was good. It was after that the show fell into too many stereotypes.

Ron Moore's Battlestar has really found the promise in the original's concept. I credit Moore with dusting off what so many of us saw in that original show and staying true to it in a manner both honest and fierce. That the cuurent show touches on themes both universal and current is what will make it a classic that will be watched for decades.

Damn, Sam! You pretty much said everything that I wanted to say.

Even back when TOS aired in '78, I (being 12 years old), thought "This could be more." The premise was very intriguing but the execution sucked. I'm so glad that Ron Moore actually realized the vision I had back then.

I'll go a little further, and say that the Original BSG was almost like two series. The two-hour episodes were almost all ten times better than the one-hour episodes. Okay, "Message from Earth" was pretty weak, but "Gun on Ice Planet Zero" was a pretty enjoyable remake of The Guns of Navarone. And there is a good reason that, of all the guest characters, they resurrected Cain from "Living Legend." Finally, I thought "War of the Gods" was pretty good story-telling. By contrast, about the only one-hour episode that was worth a damn was the last one.

My DVR didn't record Razor. That really pissed me off. I guess I'll have to rent the DVD when it comes out.

When does the new season start again? I forgot...

The Director's cut is better anyway

Also, the new season starts March 2008, according to the website.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 4

I heard that some fans had problems following the flashbacks in Razor, but I didn't see any personally. Maybe that was the televised version but I haven't seen that one yet. So I agree that the extended cut is the only way to take this one in.

Also if its true that Razor doesn't count toward the episode count of series 4, all the better. Means a tad more Battlestar.

It really just depends on how you want to look at it. According to Moore, the original season 4 order was 20 episodes. He was then, at a later time, able to obtain 2 more episodes, for a total of 22, but intended those 2 episodes to be aired as a movie, much like the premiere (though shorter). Further, those 2 episodes were never meant to start the season per se, so we're left with episode 3 being the real season premiere, and I believe that is indeed how it will air on TV (ie: Razor won't air AGAIN, over the course of 2 weeks, followed by episode 3 in week 3).

Either way, Razor is cool

I particularly enjoyed the scenes with the Hybrid where
Spoiler:
we see he has knowledge of the Final Five; also his warning about Starbuck was a genuine surprise to me.
