Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

I think there is merit to John's theory, but there is a boatload of unanswered questions it doesn't begin to address, not the least of which is...
Spoiler:
Let's take a look at how the Losties arrived on the island. If Christian is genuinely trying to bring his family together (including his VERY pregnant daughter) isn't arranging to have them fall out of the sky at 30,000 feet just a bit risky? Granted, if he is Dharma, he may be aware of the island's "special" powers, but lots of other folks perished in this same crash and we have seen many other examples of people actually dying on the island (including Ekko's brother who died in a plane crash while trying to make an emergency landing on the island.)

And, what about Desmond? Wasn't it pretty much confirmed that the reason the plane blew apart the way it did at that precise moment was because Desmond didn't push the button in time which resulted in an electro-magnetic surge. Did Christian somehow arrange for that, too?
This is just the tip of the iceberg and off the top of my head, but if it turns out that this really is the MYSTERY of Lost, I think there will be a lot of unhappy viewers in the end.

I was wondering the same thing but I guess they only found out about The Swan from The Pearl after they killed off the majority of the Dharma group. Then at that point, they just didn't bother to kill the people in The Swan since they weren't really a threat becasue they were more or less sequestered in there.

oh come on, of course the others know about the swan. Ben's been on the island for 50 YEARS.

The communications station had all those operations manuals for the various stations on the island, including maps. and with two entrances to the swan (one being a huge door in the jungle), I'm sure that one of the others would have found it, because they also found the pearl and all the other hatches. I'm sure they just didn't take out the button pushers, because they were no risk, as someone previously menitoned they were sequestered in there. Those cameras are pretty sophisticated, who do you think installed them? Producers podcast or not... the others knew details about each station on the island.

Re: Lost season 3 discussion....

The "Sheperd theory" doesn't explain a LOT of things, like Locke's and Rose's miracles, Desmond's "time travel" and so-called psychic power, how and why the Dharma Initiative even found the island, what's been drawing ships and planes to the island apparently for centuries...shall I go on?

I still maintain that the overarcing premise on Lost is the struggle between good and evil, and the redemption that may or may not occur during it.

Non spoiler in a spoiler:

It was established Eko's brother was shot to death and his body was on the plane because of the quick getaway. Eko assumed his identity because he knew he was dead and wanted to honor his memory by changing his ways (he failed with the church killings).

The Dharma Initiative did so they could monitor people from The Pearl.

The Others wouldn't have had access to the maps in The Flame or the monitors in The Pearl before killing off the Dharma Initiative and that fits with the prodcuers saying that The Others don't know about The Swan and they didn't believe in what was being done there.

It would appear that The Others have just taken over the structures from Dharma (like the barracks and The Hydra) so I'm curious as to where they were living prior to Dharma getting to the island.
