HDDVD Rollout Questions and worries...
Wasn't sure where to put this...so feel free to move it.
Are things really getting this out of control in Hollywood that it's come down to this? I've been reading some details on HDDVD at the avsforum....and after spending $1400's to build my first PC this December, I fear I may have to spend another $1400 to build a new one in November of this year if I want HDDVD....
Lets run down the things that worry me...
1)Some kind of decoder built into new motherboards for copy protection purposes that will make my current one unable to play HDDVD because it lacks this feature...
2)Possibly need to get a new monitor that also has copy protection built in, so as not be able to somehow route the signal to a DVD recorder(as I understand it at least)..
3)New operation system upgrade...This is an easy fix, although I've been told that Vista is basically XP with a few minor upgrades...
4)Copy Protection for recorded broadcasts on Media Center PC's. It seems a bit unclear at this point, but when cable cards are introduced later this year, you may only be able to watch HDTV content, not record.
Is there anyway to fight these changes before the software is released, or is our system too bogged down in intrigue to even bother?
I definetly don't want to spend another $1400's on a new system when all I should have to do is by an HDDVD Drive and a new operating system to view the DVD's...
Any thoughts, comments, clarifications?
Thanks!
Neil
