Sounds like the live-action Star Wars series will be happening according to TheForce.net:

Here's what we've been told officially about the upcoming live-action TV series from Lucasfilm.

100 episodes
1 hour each
based on a spinoff character
Lucas will direct first season
write season one at one time
film season one at one time
takes place between ROTS and ANH
I'm very pumped for this if it really happens.

Sounds cool, but I would have loved to see the X-Wing (book) series made into a series. This is good too.

Sounds kinda cool. This should keep Lucas busy if true. I would've figured he'd want someone else to handle the show. Does this mean he'll direct all the episodes (maybe 22)? Did they sign a contract or something that would prevent cancellation because 100 episodes is a pretty large goal (about 5 seasons).

I can't imagine George Lucas would have any problem getting 100 episodes of television produced.

Don't you ever, EVER compare me to "Family Guy," you hear me Kyle? Compare me to "Family Guy" again and so help me, I will kill you where you stand!

Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go: "Hey Cartman you must like 'Family Guy,' right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of 'Family Guy' Cartman!" I AM NOTHING LIKE FAMILY GUY! WHEN I MAKE JOKES THEY ARE INHERENT TO A STORY! DEEP SITUATIONAL AND EMOTIONAL JOKES BASED ON WHAT IS RELEVANT AND HAS A POINT, NOT JUST ONE RANDOM INTERCHANGEABLE JOKE AFTER ANOTHER!

I believe he said he might direct the first episode, not the entire first season.

That was my first thought too
I love the X-wing series (reading them through again currently)

But, this premise could be promising if:
1. The spin-off character is interesting
2. The show storyline crosses paths with known SW Universe people from time to time.

My vote would be for an early rebellion member from Alderaan. That would make the destruction of the planet more personal.

Has Lucas made any announcement about when we can expect to see this series on TV? This should definitely rock! (Of course, when it reruns later on different stations as a compilation of 2-hour movies, we can expect to see all of the episodes jumbled around and re-edited with all-new footage exclusive to the 2-hour versions, and the home video and DVD versions will be those wacky re-edits! But I digress... )

And with Lucas production values, this series will look awesome in HD.

Four words: Young Indiana Jones Chronicles

Produced, maybe, but aired, maybe not.
