Deep Impact was edited....

I was watching CBS's showing of Deep Impact. When the scene with the tidal wave hitting NY. The World Trade Center was removed.

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

That surprises me not at all. I'm frankly amazed they even showed that movie considering the big action setpiece is the destruction of New York City.

Isn't Armageddon being shown on ABC this week? I wonder if they'll remove the aftermath shot of NYC with the heavily damaged World Trade Center.

It is sad that networks feel that they have to 'protect' us from fiction.

I may be the only person, but I really found "Deep Impact" a much better film then Armageddon..

Are you sure? I watched the last half hour an the Twin Towers were visible when the tidal wave hit. Perhaps it being pan and scan cropped the scene to
appear that it was edited.

Honestly, it feels weirder to see it removed...

When I'm watching a movie about NY... and they're missing, I go "what the heck... oh right, of course, must be because of 9/11." It doesn't cross my mind during the movie, because I'm so wrapped up in the movie.

Basically, the action draws attention to itself...

I think I'd notice if it was there or removed, and it always makes me think of 9/11, not that it really takes me out of the movie or anything. Just, if I see the Statue of Liberty without the towers behind it, I notice. If I see it in an older movie and the towers are there, I notice.

I like Deep Impact and Armageddon a lot and about equally, but for vastly different reasons. In my mind, they could be impressions of the same event, the former being more personal and the latter, more global and hero-driven. (I don't buy the love story for one minute, and any film that wastes Buscemi, Wilson AND Thornton keeps my focus squarely on events and action, not characters; I seem to like every scene in any movie with Peter Stormare, though, for some odd reason) I couldn't care a whit how realistic either is, probably half of the films I enjoy are welcome diversions from my reality anyway.

This kind of editing, however, makes me sick.

Pretending the buildings were never there is counter-productive, as time goes by, I'll wish there were more reminders.

Even with terror alerts and the constant news coverage of the war, no one can tell me last 9/11 wasn't much different than the 1st anniversary. 5 years from now, it will be even harder to comprehend the enormity of what occurred, but it is imperative that we never forget.

Has the Simpsons episode with the WTC ever been aired after 9/11?

What's going to be worse is when the Freedom Towers are built and they go back to edited these in place of the Twin Towers.

I still want my Spider-Man Twin Towers trailer on DVD

I have not personally seen it, but I have heard it has been put back into sydication.

And count me in as someone who hates the towers being removed as if they were never there. It really insults my intelligence.
