A Potpourri of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror V (tv)

SciFi Wire: "UPN Goes Supernatural"

dateline: October 28, 2003 9:00 a.m. ET

Quote:
UPN has several supernatural-themed drama series in development for fall 2004, Variety reported. They include an untitled hour from writer J.F. Lawton (Under Siege), which will blend live-action and animé to tell the story of two actresses working on a Saturday morning kids' TV show whose costumes actually give them superhuman powers, the trade paper reported.

UPN is also developing Nightingale, which revolves around a woman who's guided by unseen forces to fight evil at night, but has no memory of doing so once the sun rises. Brandon Camp and Mike Thompson (John Doe) are writing and executive-producing via Sony Pictures Television, the trade paper reported.

UPN also has picked up an hourlong script from writer Justin Tanner, about a man whose psychic abilities force him to deal with the unresolved problems of dead people, the trade paper reported.

"I See Dead People!"

SciFi Wire: "SCI FI Casts Dead Lawyers"

dateline: December 4, 2003 9:00 a.m. ET

Quote:
SCI FI Channel has signed Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham and Sean Patrick Flanery to star in Dead Lawyers, an hour-long pilot for a supernatural drama series. Flanery (The Dead Zone) stars as lawyer Jimmy Quinn, who awakens after he dies to discover that he must undo injustices he committed during his life before he can reach the afterlife. Abraham (Amadeus) co-stars as Thomas Whitelaw, Jimmy's afterlife mentor.

Dead Lawyers begins filming in Toronto in early December. Paris Barclay directs. The pilot is a production of the Zanuck Company, in association with Sony Pictures Television. Dean Zanuck, Harrison Zanuck, Lili Fini Zanuck and Richard Zanuck will executive produce the pilot, which is written by co-executive producer Christopher Murphey.

"Kill Lawyers Dead!"

SciFi Wire: "ABC Orders Desperation"

dateline: December 15, 2003 9:00 a.m. ET

Quote:
ABC has picked up a three-hour TV adaptation of Stephen King's apocalyptic novel Desperation, Variety reported. Mark Sennet (K Street) will executive produce, with Mick Garris (The Stand) directing, the trade paper reported. King, who is currently recovering from a serious case of pneumonia, has already written the screenplay. Desperation is the latest in a string of King projects at the network, including the upcoming midseason series Kingdom Hospital.

Based on King's 1996 book, Desperation tells the story of a man who winds up in a bizarre mining town, Desperation, Nev., after being pulled over by the strange local sheriff, the trade paper reported. The man eventually discovers that a mysterious force has killed the town's residents and that he must kill it to escape.

Sennet told the trade paper that he hopes to begin production in March or April. Garris must first complete the feature-film adaptation of King's e-book Riding the Bullet.

Desperation has been in development for some time, having originally been optioned as a feature by New Line, the trade paper reported.

Standard "Steven King" = [ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!]
