At the conclusion of the show we find out that the parents were paid $1 million dollars so that the comedian could do what he wanted with their older son. That money and future monies were disguised as payments for a script the father had written.

The parents wanted it both ways. They reported the incident so that it appeared to their son action was being taken. Then they appeared to do the deal, getting the money for the operations for their other son, reasoning that the abuse had already occurred and nothing could be done about that, but they could save the second son.
