Re: Testy Area 51
So I went to see King Boxer/Five Fingers of Death over the weekend. Here are my thoughts from the movie tracking thread:
One of the first Hong Kong kung fu movies to hit it big in the US, with all the familiar elements: corny sound effects, incoherent plotting, and wall-to-wall over-the-top ass-kicking martial arts. Some of the fight scenes are great, particularly a few involving a trio of Japanese karate masters hired by the bad guys. The vague and somewhat incomprehensible story keeps it from being anything more than an enjoyable series of battles, but those are fun enough to make it worth seeing. This seems to be where Tarantino got the idea of using part of the theme from the TV show Ironside for several dramatic moments in Kill Bill: in this movie, that theme appears whenever the main character busts out the special "Iron Palm" kung fu technique to bone-crunching effect.

Re: Testy Area 51
Yep, the great Rutger Hauer, Haggai, I found that odd bit of trivia on his bio at the IMDB.
I know, a lot of those old kung fu flicks were nicking music cues from everywhere. I remember seeing one on video tracked with Jean-Michel Jarre's Oxygene in a training sequence. Another used cues from In the Heat of the Night.
I think Jim would love a massive 50 disc Kaiju box set, Joe too. While I've got my eyes on that 40 disc James Bond collection [bites fist] but it looks like they've screwed up the on screen captions on a couple of the films, i.e. they're missing. Damn!

Re: Testy Area 51
Talking of Kung Fu movies, Angelina Jolie portrays a martial arts master in an upcoming film. Her co-stars include Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu and um Dustin Hoffman?

Re: Testy Area 51
Sorry, missed the trivia question. Yes my first thoughts were Rutger Hauer too (John Ryder, Albert Speer, Dries de Gier, etc.).
In my home one of "his" most liked films was (and is) LadyHawke.

Re: Testy Area 51
I love Ladyhawke. Especially, the very authentic prog-disco soundtrack. Just put me right in that medieval mood. The only better soundtrack ever was Young Guns. Whammy bar guitars and the old west..woo-hoo..........AUTENTICO

Re: Testy Area 51
Zen, someone started a Ladyhawke music appreciation thread over in the Music Area (we have a music area?), you wanna go and say something erm... nice?
I keed. Hey I liked Andrew Powell's anachronistic Ladyhawke themes, bought the album and CD.

Re: Testy Area 51
I do like the movie. It's just sometimes when they are riding a horse and they are bouncing right to the very Jan Hammeresque beat' it's kinda funny. I was totally good all weekend(no fungus, cacti, alcohol etc.) Saturday, my daughter and I got all jacked up on peanut-butter and chocolate ice-cream, popcorn and Pepsi. We were all hopped up until like 5 a.m. watching movies. Sugar hangovers are the absolute worst.
