The Movie...

Give a Nerd Some Lovin'

Every time a new Star Wars movie comes out, hundreds of Star Wars fans wait in line for 6 weeks. Who are these people? How do they deal with passersby making fun of them and most importantly, how do they go to the bathroom? Star Wait has these answers and many more.

Director Michael Rotman and Editor Adam Schenck stood in the "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" line with this colorful cast of characters to answer these questions and more.

Unless you never watched or read the news around the time each of the Star Wars films were released, you probably already heard about these dedicated fans who have camped out as long as six weeks in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, many of which have made it a pilgrimage for every Star Wars release. This project documents the experience of participating with these fans, and reveals for more about them then just their appreciation and devotion for Star Wars.

The documentary is played out in nine 'episodes'; curiously, this is the same number as the Star Wars series was originally going to be scripted for.

Episode I___: Welcome to the Line
Meet some of the cast. How do their badges help them avoid spoilers?

Episode II__: Give a Nerd Some Lovin'
A look at the couples and singles in the line.

Episode III_: The Visitors
A band preaching the love of Jesus plays 'til all hours of the night while also trying to form Hollywood's largest prayer circle.

Episode IV__: For a Good Time Call...
Everyone from all over the world calls the pay phone on Hollywood Blvd, including George Lucas.

Episode V___: Questions from the Street
You have questions for the line members? So did every single tourist who walked by the line.

Episode VI__: Tickets
The tickets finally go on sale... Maybe....? And Josh gets in a fight with Matt.

Episode VII_: Nerds Gone Wild
They get tattoos and get in a fight with a punk band. No, really.

Episode VIII: Media Darlings
Media from all over the world arrives the day of the movie and won't leave the line members alone.

Episode IX__: The End of The line
They waited for 6 weeks and they finally get to see the movie. But did they like it?

    Spoiler:
Most were once again waiting in line for several weeks at Grauman's Chinese Theater for the opening of SW:III despite being told by everyone involved that the film was not going to be shown there. On the last day, George Lucas sent a couple dozen storm troopers from the So Cal Garrison (part of the infamous 501st Stormtrooper Legion who escorted them to the front of the line at their choice of either the Vista Theater or Arclight Cinemas so all's well that ends well.
  • Extra Footage
Over an hour of additional material (17 clips), much of which is even more entertaining than what made the final cut.
  • A Special Easter Egg
    Spoiler:
a multi-page gallery featuring 50 of the ID badges made for those members in the line. The last page includes the badges for Michael Rotman and Adam Schenck, the director and editor of 'Star Wait', as well as a photo of the backside of the ID badges. Each badge also identifies if the person was a member of 'the line' for Episode I, and where they ranked in that line. They also identify what state they are from, and what 'spoiler acceptance' level they are at (identified by the color of the light saber).

To find this egg, go to the main menu, highlight 'Chapter I', then press the 'right' arrow key once. Wait 1 second, then press the 'right arrow key two more times. Don't press enter! The Gallery will appear automatically after the third time you hit the arrow key.

Nils: I especially find your section on the special features to be quite revealing!

Well, well said!

Actually, I wasn't going to pick this up..but when I read the back of the box at my local Target, I thought it looked like a lot of fun. My son and will be will finishing up Episode III this weekend. I may spin this after we're done with that.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

:b

I think you are going to love this DVD! I also picked it up at target just out of pure curiosity, and the great price. Once I started, I couldn't stop watching. Several of the commentaries are really entertaining, and be sure to check out the extra footage!

I retired from DVD reviewing years ago, but because no one was even talking about this DVD I figured I'd brush of the cob webs and turn on the "blaa blaa blaas"

I've been so darn busy today that I've hardly had a chance to do anything but the formatting, and had it not been for David's help even that wouldn't have been done.

I'll try and get this out by the weekend.
