Hey Cees!
My dad (73 years-old) has decided to take on the project (with my sister's help) of putting our family geneological history up on the internet for future generations of Frezons to ponder.
Can you suggest any good links to inforamtion on the Fresian connection based on what I've told you about my great-great......great-grandfather Pieter Frezon who emigrated from Flanders to Ghent, NY in the 1700s? See THIS POST for more information.
You know, maybe some history of the area...particularly of that time and the popularity of the idea of an exodus to the colonies.

I've actually driven up (in autumn) and investigated Bogus Basin so I know it's for real. It's where the "locals" hang out for skiing. Rich tourists go to Sun Valley or Tamarack.

Uh huh. And you think the "locals" don't see you out-of-towners comin' a mile down the road?!

From meeting various local people, I'm gathering that Idahoans are generally "wags"....they don't want to encourage outsiders to move there and therefore give humorously downbeat names to things and places. I'm sure that where those darned "Famous Potatoes" license plates come from. Hence "Bogus Basin".

Ah...here's some history:
Quote:
Bogus Basin Mountain Resort is one of few, successful non-profit ski resorts in North America. It got its humble start in the late 1930's when a group of hearty individuals realized their dreams of a ski hill above Boise. They named Bogus Basin after the fool's gold that was found in the hills below Deer Point. Many old-timers will give a wink and a nod as they embellish the lore of "Jughead Jake" and "Pan Handle Pete". Legend has it, the two used the fool's gold to whoop it up in the valley and then left town before their secret was learned, leaving many Boise businessmen nothing to show for it except "bogus gold"....
In 1998 Bogus Basin Mountain Resort created a buying frenzy when it decided to slash prices on season passes. Skiers and snowboarders came in droves to purchase the deeply discounted passes. At $199 for a regular pass, $29 for a kid pass (age 7-11) and $800 for a family pass, Boise was turned into a ski town! Bogus Basin issued more than 25,000 passes for the 1998-99 season. No other ski resort in the country had ever done such a thing. Many skeptics waited for the other shoe to drop-but it didn't. The 1998-99 season went off without a hitch. In fact, Mother Nature helped out by delivering one of the biggest snow years in Bogus Basin's history. Bogus Basin continues to offer ultra affordable season passes so that everyone can enjoy "The Best Local Ski Resort in the Country."

As long as you realize that it happened in Sun Valley. I don't think it ever happened in Bogus Basin.

No. Glenn Miller. And, Sonja Henie.
More info on Sun Valley.
It Happened in Sun Valley
Howdy folks, let's go for a ride
Get your favorite one to sit by your side
Cuddle up in the sleigh
Giddy up Nellie Gray
And away we go
While you're listening to the sleigh bells ring
You're yodeling to your bay-be
You'll feel nice and warm
No matter how cold it may be
Take a look at little Jack and Jill
They ski down a hill
That's a snow plow turn
And look there's a spill
There's a spill on the hill
When you're down it's a thrill
To get up again
Everybody ought to learn to ski
'Cause that's how we first met
We were that Jack and Jill
That came down a hill
When I looked at you
My heart took a spill
Took a spill on a hill
It's a thrill
That I can forget
It happened in Sun Valley
Not so very long ago
There were sunbeams in the snow (cool snow)
And a twinkle in your eye
I remember, oh, so clearly
That you nearly passed me by
Then it happened in Sun Valley
When you slipped and fell and so did I
---- Instrumental Interlude ----
It happened in Sun Valley
Not so very long ago
There were sunbeams in the snow
And I fell in love
When I saw that twinkle in your eye
I remember oh, so clearly
That you nearly passed me by
Then it happened in Sun Valley
When you slipped and fell and so did I
Now every year we go back and then
We recall that fall and that moment when
We were there on the hill
So we both take a spill
And we're Jack and Jill... again
