I see nothing in that picture which even closely resembles a native/resident of NYS.
There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Re: Test
S/he's your Senator Mike. I can't help it if NY is famous for voting in carpetbagger Senators. Then again, Barbara Boxer was born in Brooklyn. Here in Idaho we vote in locals, although they may from time to time exhibit somewhat oddball human traits.
So is it now time to repeal the XVII Amendment? That whole set of "progressive era" Amendments (XVI - XIX) caused more problems than they solved, and only the XVIII was ever repealed.

And return the election of US Senators to the individual state's Senates? I shudder at that prospect.

Re: Test
The purpose of the Senator was originally to represent his or her state's interests as a whole in Congress. What the heck does Hillary know about NY interests? For that matter, Boxer moved to California when she was 36, having attended NY public schools and colleges exclusively before becoming a Wall Street stockbroker.
IIRC the Governor picked the Senators, subject to the state legislature's approval, prior to the XVII Amendment.

Obviously I know that to which you refer:

But...did you realize that all of NYs senators from the mid-50s to today (with those two exceptions) are, indeed, products of NYS?
Schumer -- born in Brooklyn
Clinton -- born in Chicago
Al D'Amato -- Brooklyn
Moynihan -- Tulsa, OK (but lived in NY most of his life)
Jim Buckley -- NYC
Charles Goodell -- Jamestown, NY
RFK -- Brookline, MA
Jake Javits -- NYC
Kenneth Keating -- Lima, NY
And, in case you were unawares, Charles Goodell is the father of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

I actually think it was just each state's Senate (not full legislature) which elected US Senators. This distinction was important because it was believed the state Senates would provide better representation of the rural parts of the states when making that determination.
No. That is wrong. It was the full legislature...but, obviously, the decisions were made by the head (boss) of the party which controlled the entire legislature.
While I understand the attractiveness of a nationally elected Congress and a Senate selected by the state-elected officials from back home, I still shudder to think of the politicization of such a vote today (let alone yesterday).

Well, I guess that "Brookline" is almost the same thing as "Brooklyn".

Re: Test
Actually that's a direct quote from the Constitution. Don't forget that there is at least one state with a unicameral legislature.

Re: Test
So Boxer, Schumer, D'Amato, and the Dodgers all came from Brooklyn. You sent Boxer to SF and the Dodgers to LA, and kept Schumer and D'Amato for NY.
There's a message in there someplace, but I can't quite understand it at present.
