Using Bose Acoutimass cubes with A/v Reciever??

Hey can you use the cube speakers and go right into a normal av reciever, set the speakers to small, use a normal sub vs. that bose module?

or will I at least have to buy a non proprietory bass module for it.

does ohm come into play at all?

Thanks

You MUST use the bass module. You can add a sub in addition for better movie performance, but the bass module ABSOLUTELY MUST still be used, and the whole mess should still be set to small if you use a real sub in addition.

I would just turn the Bose into my secondary listening system, and aquire a set of real speakers, and a real sub.

Hmm. I guess I'm wondering why? is it because i'd have to strip off the speaker wire connectors that connect to the module? no prob there.

Is it a crossover / frequency issue? reciever should handle that.

I understand the whole bose crap issue as well. I'm trying to save my neighbor some costs by setting him up by possibly keeping his existing mounted bose cubes and get him a real sub and reciever to drive his sound and get him on 1 remote to power everythinshould and easy a/v switching.

Thanks

Bose uses some strong equalization (tone control) to make those teensy "sqeakers" act like speakers. That EQ is built into the sub unit, so you are stuck with it. As has been said, you can always add another sub to the whole system.

Re: Using Bose Acoutimass cubes with A/v Reciever??

What should be said is that, yes, technically you can do it. Will you be happy with the results should be the next question. The answer will most likely be "no". I would surmise that the bose speakers will sound better when using all bose stuff, b/c of the eq issues mentioned above. I would also tell your friend that for just a few hundred dollards, he could purchase some bookshelf type speakers that sound MUCH better and are not so large that won't blend into the decor. However, if WAF is that big of a factor, I would suggest she either start looking at different speakers with him (many do look very nice and are not that expensive) or he should just suffer calmly for a while until she hopefully changes her mind about him getting new speakers.

Chuck hit on some of the reasons, and there are more. Basically, those Bose setups are intended to be used together, for many reasons. For one thing, that is a bass module, which is not remotely a sub. Very different animals. Taking at away is like taking the woofer out of a bookshelf speaker, hooking up a sub and thinking it will perform properly.
