Constant Subwoofer White Noise

I hope you can help me. My old subwoofer started making a sound the other day, which I can only say, sounds like white noise. It’s constant and it doesn’t matter if it’s hooked up to the receiver or not, nor does the volume control have any effect. The receiver is a Yamaha RX-V757 and Velodyne makes the old SW. I went out and got another SW (a Paradigm Ultracube 12) hooked it up and the same thing. So, I unhooked the Paradigm from the receiver, plugged it back in and the same noise. I tried different outlets and went so far as to turn off the circuit breakers on all but the one outlet it was plugged into and still the same noise. All the other speakers sound fine. The receiver was checked out and came back fine. I checked the outlet and it's properly grounded. I’m trying to avoid a service call (the store is an hour away and they start charging when they leave) so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Re: Constant Subwoofer White Noise

Sounds like you have a ground loop issue or noise in your line since both subs do this. What else do you have on the same circuit you are plugging the subs into? Amps, including active subs, should not be plugged into a circuit that has other large devices on it, such as fans, fridge, washer/dryer, etc... and also fluorescent lights or lights with dimmer switches can cause noise. Try plugging them into other outlets to see if the problem goes away; that would be my first shot. If you have ground loop, disconnecting the sub from the receiver should make that go away, so since you said it doesn't matter if it is connected, it probably isn't ground loop.
