complete NOOB seeks answers

hello home theater world. i have an old Pioneer VSX-511S amp. i also have 4 older floor standing speakers. I;m currently using this sytem for my computer... 2 of the floor stadning speakers are plugged into the R and L "rear speakers" in the back of the amp. the other 2 floor standing speakersare plugged into the R and L "front A" in the back of the amp. This leaves the "Center Speaker" and "Front B" unused. I have a box with two subs in it. is there anyway i can plug that into the system as well? please help. thank you. and sorry.

Hi Steve! Welcome to the Forum!

I'm sure someone will be by more qualified than I to tackle your question...but let me ask a basic: isn't there a subwoofer connection on the receiver that you can connect your sub to?

Is THIS your receiver?

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Another question: What is a box with two subs in it? Are we talking two amplifiers and two speakers or one amplifier and two speakers?

What do the input terminals labels say?

Re: complete NOOB seeks answers

Steve: Check out THIS THREAD.

I had asked a similar question about hooking up a subwoofer to my old stereo receiver which I, in turn, am currently using with my computer. Different from your situation however in that mine IS a powered sub.

I figure it's better to use this older gear than just have it stored in boxes gathering dust...and it certainly sounds a ton better than any computer speakers I've heard.

Maybe the information within will answer your question.

still a little confused lol i dunno if this is a lost cause or not. wires from the R/L speakers from the reciever plug into the sub, and from there plug into the actual floor standing speakers?

That's the way I was advised in that other thread:

Quote:
Receiver's R/L speaker outputs>>>Subwoofers R/L Speaker Inputs>>>Subwoofer's R/L Speaker outputs>>>Terminals on the R/L speakers.

So basically you are running speaker wire from the receiver to the sub and from the sub to the speakers.

AFAIK, the only difference in our set-ups is that mine was a powered sub whereas yours is passive.

I hate to say "just go ahead and give it a try" on the outside chance you could damage something. I'm hoping one of the fellas here who knows a ton more about these things than I do will chime in shortly.
