My sub had an avant-garde conga party last night...

...I'm hoping that title gets your interest.

In the middle of the night, my wife and I were awakened by the sub (the lowly JBL PB10). It was thumping in an arrhythmic manner. I unplugged it and went back to sleep.

This morning, I plugged it back in again, and, so far, no thumping.

The sub (along with all my HT gear) is plugged into a Panamax conditioner. The receiver feeding it was turned off. As a matter of fact, I hadn't used the sub for a day or so previous. Today, my daughter used it listening to music, and no worries.

Any clues to what caused the impromptu concert?

Thanks,
Doug

I may be thinking of something else, but it seems like I remember a problem with the JBL PB series amps, or possibly it was specific to a certain model...either the PB10 or PB12. Searching this forum or Google for something like "JBL sum amp problem" may turn something up.

Thanks, Brent. Yes, I'm one of those curmudgeons who complains about folks not searching before posting, and now I'm an offender. A quick search turned up several threads w/ very detailed info about the amp failing on the PB10s. I'll just keep mine going until it becomes too bothersome, then replace it w/ a better sub. It's been a decent HT sub for several years. In fact, I don't use it that often. I watch a lot of old films, and their 1.0 or 2.0 tracks keep the sub lazy.

Guess this is another "lost in translation" moment. I wasn't being curmudgeonly with my answer. While there are times that "search is your friend" is the appropriately condescending answer, this was meant as a friendly suggestion that a little searching might confirm/deny my memory of problems with JBL subs.

Cheers!

Oh, no, that wasn't my intention. Your response was very friendly. I was being condescending to myself!

Cheers,
Doug
