Need advice on surround setup

My home has a rather annoying living room layout, and I'm struggling to figure out what kind of surround sound system would actually work with the layout that I have. The room is a medium sized room, approximately 14 feet wide, and 25 feet long, although the couch would only be about 15 feet from the TV. I have attached a png image of a rough floorplan for the living room. Since I can't figure out any good way to set up satellite speakers, I've been looking at single speaker solutions like the Yamaha YSP-800 as a possibility. I just don't know what will work in my situation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Need advice on surround setup

yup, that looks like a tough one. in ceilings may be the best bet for surrounds. otherwise left surr. goes on bookshelf or stand and right surr. is either on stand or wall behind you or in front of you. or of course, there are ceiling brackets too. the general rule of thumb is the surrounds should be above and behind you and not pointed directly at the listening area. i think the trickiest part will be that right surround.

or you could try one of the other solutions like the yamaha you mentioned or one of the kef solutions.

good luck

Re: Need advice on surround setup

Yeah. That's kind of what I was afraid of. It's not gonna be easy to find good locations for the rear speakers. Maybe the Yamaha is the way to go, but I don't know if it would be able to handle the kind of room I have or not either. At least with a regular system I can keep trying the rear surrounds in different places. The Yamaha might not be as easy to configure. Anyone got any experience with getting one of the single-speaker Yamahas working in a room that isn't laid out very well?
