Rear Surrounds placement in awkward room layout

Hi,
having a problem with my rear surrounds. The problem being that my bed is right up against the rear wall in the corner of the room. this means that the left surround can not be mounted very high on the rear wall, as it will overshoot me when i am lying down watching a film.

So it seems my options are: (1)to mount it about 2ft above my listening position and angle it down as much as possible(even though it will overshoot me but be level with the other surround)

(2) mount it about 1ft higher than my head pointing down (it will be lower than my right surround)

(3) mount it on the left hand side wall which will result in the sound coming from the side of me while the right surround is mounted on the rear wall.

Tried including pictures but it wouldn't work

Any help would be appreciated

HI Nicholas

It all depends on whether you are more interested in the quality of the surround sound...or the look of the surround speakers...if I was you...I would mount the surround speakers so that they sound the best...mine are not placed ideally because of the way I have my system set-up at the moment...sometimes it is a little noticeable and sometimes it is virtually impossible to tell a major difference...please keep in touch.

i would rather have great sounding speakers than ones that would look nice, what would you suggest?

either move your bed out from the wall, or stick with a 5.1 setup.

Re: Rear Surrounds placement in awkward room layout

don't think i was very clear in my first post, the bed can not be moved from the wall, maybe 3cm but not much more. No furniture can be moved from its position, my room is just too small

my setup is 5.1, its the Pioneer HTP-GS1

Hi Nicholas

I would suggest option number 2...or whatever placement gives you the best surround sound regardless of the appearance...option number 3 does not seem like a good idea. Please keep in touch.

I don't know how this will help, but surrounds are ideally diffuse sound, not direct like the front channels. They should create a less distinct wall of sound. Have you thought of trying aiming them up at the ceiling, rather than directly at you? It is a similar concept used in bipolar surrounds. You might at least try it.

If not, I'm sure Arthur would recommend a Hsu sub to solve all your problems.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.

Hi John

I will continue to recommend HSU subwoofers as long as I believe that they are the best value in very high performance subs...threre is a review out there that places the new HSU VTF-3MKIII near the very top of the subwoofer heap...if you would like a link to that review, please let me know.
