Don't know if this casual opinion will help but: the Athena subs I heard at several Best Buys IMO sounded better than the Klipschs they sell. The Athenas had a rich, deep quality while the Klipschs, while having more "punch" had less depth & a slightly boomy sound (even the one sitting in the middle of their speaker theater). I also didn't think the enclosures of the Klipschs were built very well-while playing, the top panel for example exhibited a lot of vibration.

For me anyway, the Athenas would be better for music reproduction, though still could respectably reproduce movie effects.

The only negative I can think of with the Athena is that it is only 100w, but for $150, I guess you can't complain and I'm sure it is enough as long as you don't have a huge room. Onecall and Audio Advisor also have it for $150, just not with free shipping.
