Updating to B&W 700 Series; Comments from Owners please

Hi,

I currently have,

AARON Loudspeakers - CC240 Centre Speaker
AARON Loudspeakers - CC240 Rear Centre Speaker
AARON Loudspeakers - ATS4 Front Speakers
AARON Loudspeakers - ATS3 Rear Speakers
AARON Loudspeakers - Sub240 Subwoofer

http://www.aaronhifi.com.au

Powered by,

Harman Kardon AVR5550 A/V Receiver

And a,

Harman Kardon DVD30 Player

I am thinking of upgrading the speakers to the following B&W 700 Series,

B&W 703 Floor Standing $5,699pr
B&W 705 Bookshelf $2,499pr
B&W HTM7 Centre Channel $1,499ea
B&W ASW 750 Subwoofer $3,500ea

($Australian)

Just wondering if this is a wise move? Are the B&W Speakers that good?

I am not familiar with AARON speakers at all, so no idea what that comparison would be. The 700 series is very nice, though you may find better speakers for you if you go auditioning. I ended up with dynaudios instead of the 700 series, but tastes differ.

If you're going to drop that much money, I would be extremely tempted to move to the 800 series. Perhaps the 804S towers with the 805 bookshelf as surrounds, and the HTM4 as the center.

I only suggest this because many people claim that the 800 series is a bigger step up in quality from the 700 series than the 700 series is from the 600 series.

Also, the prices you have quoted are MSRP. I would think you should be able to get at least 10% off of that -- possibly closer to 15%-20% when buying as a package.

The B&W subs have gotten much better, but you may consider some other subs: Hsu, SVS, Velodyne, etc. Even after shipping, taxes, etc you could probably get the the SVS PC12-Ultra ($1642 (AUS))for about the same or less than that B&W. Or you could get a cylinder to save more on shipping.
