Speaker Placement

Santa will be bringing me a set of Polk Audio M20 towers.
Can I place one directly in front of my front firing sub?
The M20 is a 2-way tower with both speakers at the top.
The sub will be blasting directly into the bottom cabinetry of the tower. Is this OK.?

I doubt it would be a big deal, you'll have to try it and see.

I am supprised that with all the discussion about speaker placement, that this has never come up before. My sub speaker will be litterly 3 inches away from my tower.

Well the rule of thumb is to keep the sub a little distance from all the other "stuff" but like all rules there are exceptions. But sub placement is mostly a trial and error process.

I have always been told to place your subwoofer in the corner of the room.

This is a good article for sub placement. Hope this helps. I cheated and went with 2 subs.

UPDATE:

Santa did bring the Polk Audio M20 towers AND a matching CS1 center. Thanks Matt for the link, but my wife had a better idea. She said "Just turn it around." DUH! Now my front firing sub is a rear firing sub. And it can stay in the corner.
