I need some opinions on what would be a good choice for a small powered sub 14" square or less to be used only for music in a room approx. 14' x18'. Also less than $400 US. I am using a H-K avr125 and PSB Image 2B bookshelf speakers. On ebay right now is Paradigm PDR-10; Klipsch Ksw-10; Earthquake sub-80. As auditioning is out of the question,( I live in a remote area ) I need opinions and suggestions on these and others. Also when hooking up cables to the sub should I use the Low Level or High Level inputs? Thank You.

AV123 has one of their ELT subs on b-stock.

ELT Sub

I haven't heard the ELT, but I have heard their UFW.

Given the track record of their products, it's worth taking a look.

In that price range, can you really beat an SVS PB10-ISD?

A used one would do you right.

Low level via RCA all the way.

He wants to spend less than four cheese - after shipping he's looking at close to five (if not more).

Duane, if your budget can handle it, there are some exceptional subs to be had in the 4-5 bill range that will take your music to the next level. The PB10 being one of them!

I don't know if WAF is a consideration. Doesn't sound like it by your choices on eBay.

The PDR10 sounds great with music, everything but pipe organ, but I'm not sure what it costs in the States.

Sounds like the Adire Rava is right about what you want. $399+tx & shipping, so a little more than $400, but by all accounts great with music. I have a PB-10 and I am very happy with it, and I listen to mostly music as well, but as noted, it will likely push $500 for a new one.

With a receiver, I'd always use the low level out for the sub.

Acoustic Visions MRS-10. It was (for a while) $375, which is a steal. I think the price has gone back up a bit, but it fits your size limit of 14" square, and it's great for music, looks good, plays quite loud/clean for its size, and gets to 28 Hz with authority in-room.

Yes WAF is a factor so the smaller in size the better, providing that it works well for music.

Try the Definitive Technology ProCinima Series ProSub 30 its in the right size range for you and has nice tight bass. I have it set up with my JM Labs speakers and it works very well for reproducing music and dvd's.
