How to choose the right subwoofer
Hello there:
Right now I'm planning to buy a new subwoofer but I really don't know much about how to choose the right one for me.
Can anyone give me some advices about this.
Thank you

Joan, To help get a better answer ... if you could answer the following:
1. What your current system is.
2. Budget.
3. Room size, including height, and any openings into other areas.
4. Preferred size for the subwoofer (as in how big will you tolerate).

Joan,
I just heard that Comp USA is letting the Hsu's go for $199, which is an unbelievable price (less than half price) for a sub that is a very nice value even at full price. You might want to check it out as, from what I read, there were only one or two left at each Comp USA.

Craig, here is some information about my system:
Onkyo TX-NR801 receiver 100w per channel
Infinity SM-video 175w center channel
2 x Infinity SM-185 125w main speakers
4 x Infinity SM-165 100w surround speakers
My room dimensions are 15 ft. x 12 ft. and 10 ft. height, the distance from the primary viewing position and TV is aprox. 10 ft.
I was thinking about a 12" subwoofer (actually I was thinking on M&K V-1250THX or Atlantic Technology 272PBM) but I don't know if this subwoofer match my speakers or if it is too much for my room or my speakers.

Joan - You have 1800 cubic feet, which is a fairly easy space to fill. Do you have a price quoted to you on the two subs you mentioned ?

Ok... The Atlantic Technology is a decent subwoofer, though discontinued, and the M&K is also a pretty good choice.
Both will give you good, solid bass.
Are you interested in other suggestions, such as units available from an internet direct companies, or are you more interesting in finding out whether these subs are "good enough" ...?
If you are pretty convinced you want to keep this between those two, I would go with the Atlantic Technology.

Joan- You could look at SVS:

One of the best values out there, no matter what you want to spend.
If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

Joan, here a few brands of subs I like:
1.) SVS
2.) SVS
3.) SVS
and for something different,
4.) SVS
Just teasing, but seriously, SVS makes great subs, has great service, and several models in your price range. You could do a search on the forums here and read for yourself all the praise SVS has received.
