Distance from TV to unshielded speakers?

I am moving to a new house in a few weeks and I have question on unshielded speakers. In my current house, it is a non-issue for my mains (Def Tech Pro Mon 100) as they sat on top of a cabinet about 4 feet higher than the top of the TV (Sony 27 trinitron), and about 4 feet laterally to each side of the TV.

In the room in the new house, space is much more limited. The TV will be on a trunk against a wall. There would be space to either side of the TV but only about 1.5 feet on either side, at most.

I am guessing I am better off mounting on the wall above and over a bit (again less room than before), but I am curious, in general, how much direct space typically is necessary for the speaker to not create an issue?

Also, a bummer on the Pro Mon 100s is that the back of the speaker has a notch to slide over a nail/bolt, but does not have a mounting brackter connector, which would be better off for my mains. Any thoughts? I could live using the notch for now, but I am thinking I would be better off in the long run to put up little wall mounted shelves and use the swivel stand that comes with the speaker....Any thoughts?

As long as there is no discoloration on the screen, you’re fine.

The idea would be to get the speakers aimed at the listening area, bot horizontally and vertically. The approach that facilitates that goal is the one you want.

I have an small, magnetically shielded Athena center channel speaker that is mounted right on top of a 40" XBR-800 Sony TV set...and I still experience some discoloration of the CRT, so had to place an steel plate underneath it to sort of fix the problem.

I just received a new Rocket RSC 200 center channel speaker that I want to try in the secondary HT system, but mounting it on the Sony set is out of the question because of its sheer size and weight, so I deviced a way to still being able to attain the intended goal. However, am not sure if this speaker isn't going to affect the TV because it still will be very close even though it is a shielded affair.

I know I couldn't place two SVS B4-Plus subs on the corner behind this TV set on account of the incredible amount of magnetism being produced by those eight 12" bass drivers, so had to settle placing them midway walls opposite to each other...away enough from the TV to avoid the nasty discoloration that took place otherwise.

Food for though...
