PB10 vs. PDR-12 and E250P

How is the new SVS 10" sub going to compare with the 12" subs from Paradigm PDR-12 and JBL E250P in a 17' x 15' x 8' room? The PDR-12 can be found for about the same price as the PB10 while the E250P can be had for $75-100 less.

pdr-12 was the first sub i ever owned.

i replaced it with a hsu stf-2 and noticed a HUGE difference. hsu and svs are offering subs that outperform a high %age of other subs in their price range.

i'd get a pb10 while they're still $399.

I haven't heard good things about the PDR-12's. I had a PDR-10 that was fine for my small room, then I moved to a PW-2200 which flat out kicks.

I've still heard a lot of talk about the HSU-STF-2 and SVS subs. I'm waiting for HSU to come out with a STFU before I buy one.

I don't know anything about the JBL but the PDR-12 reaches 10% distortion at 50Hz and rolls off around 30Hz according to Tom Nousaine. The Hsu and SVS are clean to about 25Hz and can hit 20Hz.

Really, the reviews on the PDR-12 seem pretty good. Do you have a link to Tom Nousaine's measurements? I've seen it somewhere before but can't find it. I guess, I am also considering the Hsu STF-2.

Curtis/Chris
Thanks for the link and info. I could have sworn I've seen some data with the JBL E250P included as well.

Anyway, the statistics seem to be for a very large room (7,500 cubic ft). My room is only slighly over 2,000 cu. ft., so while the PDR series may not extend as low as the Hsu or SVS, will it still be boomy? I've heard the PDR-10 at a dealer and I thought it was pretty good, not really boomy sounding. Also, do you know if the V.3 versions of the Paradigms were measured for the test or earlier versions?

Yes, it will be "boomy" because it reaches 10% distortion at 42Hz. It can play lower than 42Hz just not cleanly.
