JBL Speakers?

I have a pair of JBL S38 speakers (Mains) and the JBL S-Center speaker. The S Series are really good speakers. I wonder why JBL discontinued their S series excpet for a sub and the S36AWII? They are continuing the Northridge Series, although they changed the style. The Studio Series were suppoed to be better speakers than the Northridge Series. Anyone have any ideas about this?

I emailed JBL Customer Support and here's a copy of that email I received on 3 Oct 2003 ...

Philip,
Good afternoon and thank you for your inquiry. The Studio Series speakers are slowly being phased out, as there will be a newer, more expensive line of Studio speakers. This new line will probably not be introduced until early next year, and will be different than the previous model. JBL is also introducing the new Northridge "E" Series, which will be replacing the current Northridge and Studio speakers. The JBL S36AW/II (all-weather), and S36IIPM (plasma monitor) speakers will remain current, as they are designed for specific applications.

Thanks again for your e-mail, and please let us know if you have any other
questions.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Should be interesting, ... I'm just glad I found another original brand-new JBL S26 set (rear center) last April 2003 from eBay for $179 shipped when I upgraded to 6.1!!!

Here's the latest Sunday, April 18, 2004 7:08 PM email ...

Good evening. Unfortunately, we have been given no word on the possible replacement to the JBL Studio Series, as of yet. As more information is made available, this will be posted on the JBL website.

Keep an eye on the JBL website!
Phil

Thanks for the heads up Phil. Just my luck I just ordered a pair of JBL E10's to upgrade my surrounds. There shouldn't be that much difference between my S-Series fronts and the Northridge for rears. I think I heard one of the key factors in timbre matching is the tweeter and the E10 has the same "titanium" tweeter as the S-Series.

I use S38II's with the EC35 center and N26's and N24's (back) for surrounds and it works great. Even though the S38's use a 1 inch full titanium tweeter vs the 3/4 inch titanium laminate for the E and N series, they blend very well.
