Newb - In-Ceiling Rears and Box Fronts
I am assembling my first "home theater". This will be a modest 5.1 system in my family room. I have wiring buried in the walls and am shopping for receiver and speakers.
My 17 foot wide by 28 foot long family room is divided into thirds with the final third being a 1-1/2 story vaulted "sun-room". The viewing area is therefore about 18ft wide by 17ft deep with 8foot ceilings. Have a 32-inch Toshiba flat screen with speakers I cannot here.
Couch is back against the wall and will probably need to stay there due to the locations of entrances to adjoining rooms, windows, and a possible future bookcase. I can put in-ceiling rear surrounds in soffits flanking the couch. They would have to be about 15 to 18 feet apart. This may just be a short term solution until my 2 young kids are old enough to understand that touching daddy's speaker stands = death. I can use box speakers/ bookshelves up front.
I like the "aimable" or "directional" speakercraft and niles in-ceiling models. The aimables in my budget range put the rated frequency response at 40Hz to 50Hz up to
whatever. Some advice:
1. Do the fronts need to be close in frequency response to the rears?
2. Should I consider cheaper rears with only aimable tweeters and not quite as nice of a low end, concentrating more on the front soundstage?
Thanks for your patience.
