Since I get %40 off all Polk stuff where I work, I've decided to stick with them for my system upgrade...

Current

Polk R50 Towers (Fronts)
Polk CSi30 (Center)
Polk R20 Bookshelves (Surrounds)
Polk PSW350 (Sub-Woofer)

New

Polk RTi6 Bookshelves (Fronts)
Polk CSi5 (Center) - Too much for fronts? Thoughts?
Polk RTi6 Bookshelves (Surrounds)
Polk PSW350 (Sub-Woofer) - Or better if feeling like it. Any thoughts on Polk or Velodyne subs?

My DVDs

Homer: So, Mr. Malloy, it seems that the cat has been caught by the very person who was trying to catch him.
Skinner: How ironic.

That looks good. The RTi6 and 4 will match well. The CSi5 is not too, much. THe center is the most important for HT. You could go with a CSi3 though. As for the sub, Polks aren't a good value IMO. Velodyne will be better and I assume you get a discount on these as well. Also consider Paradigm subs, even though you dont get a discount they are still a very good value in Canada.

The CSi3 is actually a worse center than my current one CSi30, according to the specs. And assuming that the manufacturer is same, the performance must therefore be worse.

So bookshelves will work well in place of towers IYO?

I wouldn't say it is worse. I also have the Csi30 and like it but dont judge it on specs alone. It is (CSi3)very similar with an upgraded tweeter(vifa I think). THe CSi5 is better though but either will match the new RTis better than the CSi30. You could use it for a rear center.

If you get a good sub and use bass management setting the speakers to around 100Hz or so there is no advantage to a tower.

I think I’d pass on the sub for sure. Polk subs are pretty much the bottom feeders of the variety.

Those are good bookshelves and will work fine for HT/movie applications if used on "small" with a good subwoofer. However if you're like me and prefer un-modified pure stereo mode for music, then full-range towers would be a better choice. To that end, I have the Polk RTi150's and love them. I also have the CSi30 center and so far, it's been able to keep up with the towers for movies.

Now I'm thinking Polk RTi8 or RTi10 towers...

I agree! If you can "swing" the Velodyne I would go that way.
But then again there are many different brands out there to consider too.

Do the 8's they make for real good HT/music fronts, better then the 10's because of the 2-mids. I have a polk HT set-up with 70's as fronts and love-em.
