hi folks,
Is it ok to place a Right Front speaker 4-5 inches above the SVS 20-39 PC-Plus subwoofer without compromising any sound quality (Above the subwoofer Grill on the wall).
I have POLK RM7600 speakers having a depth of 5 1/2 inches.

or

I need to place it away from the sub-woofer.

thanks
Sameet

Well, there's nothing wrong with putting a speaker near a sub per se, but treat the sub as a dumb object that your speaker may be reflecting off the top of the grille, for instance, or obstructing the sound if it's partially blocked, etc etc.

And of course, it shouldn't be on the sub or otherwise obstructing the top port, nor should the sub obstruct any ports on the speaker, etc. Still, having the speaker ON the wall probably degrades things more than the sub being there.

Chris,
1> how does putting speakers on wall effect the sound quality?

2> would it be ok to mount the speaker so that if does not obstruct the ports of the subwoofer?

thanks

Well, generally speaking, you want a speaker away from the walls, as the walls will reinforce the bass, and you get wierd boundry effects. It can also degrade the imaging. This is not to say that you shouldn't ever mount speakers on the wall, as you can still have great sound, but given the choice to put them out in the room for proper placement, it's preferred to do taht instead. Especially if the speakers are rear ported, putting them right near the wall will make them very boomy, and flat against the wall can block the port of the speaker.

As long as the speaker isn't like resting ON the SVS or similar, you shouldn't have any problem with blocking the SVS port. You should be fine regardless.
