Small - Large

Hi

For the SONY SAVE835 satellite speakers, do you set them to “SMALL” or “LARGE”?
Any experience for someone who has them would be appreciated.

IMO, they should only be set to large if they can comfortably play down to 25 Hz or so, which is rare and even then you could make a good case for setting them to small, especially if you have a good quality sub.

Another scenario is if the speakers can play fairly low and you don't have a good sub, setting the mains to large and the sub to both(duplicate bass in mains and sub), will sometimes yield more bass, if you can minimize cancellations between the two. That is only a band-aid though because of an underperforming sub which should really be replaced.

So, in most installations, setting the speakers to small will yield the best results. In your case, you mentioned the speakers are satellites, so they should most definitely be set to small.

Does this include floor standing speakers such as JBL E90??

They are rated to 36 Hz, but I'll bet it's more in the mid 40s, so yes, setting them to small would be best for Home Theater unless they were mated with an underperforming sub like in the above scenario I mentioned.

It's about extension, not the physical size of the speakers.
