Music/Surround speaker choices?
I have just purchased a Marantz 7200 receiver (from accessories4less.com, $500 even). I currently have a pair of 12 inch Energy XL speakers (10 years old). I would like to set up a system that lets me use the 2 existing speakers and will allow me to have *good* music reproduction and also good HT. This means I need either to buy:
front L&R, center and sub or
rear L&R, center and sub
I think I have the music covered with the XL's, but that means I need to try and match it to a center chanel. My local shop has said Mirage would be the best choice (no Energy dealers within 125 miles). I'm looking for something which is going to reproduce the mid-ranges well, without letting the high ends over power.
To further help we have listened to were very impressed with: Velodyne 8" sub (even 6 feet off the ground on a stand it was good), and mirage omni's for the other 3 (the idea was to use the XL's as L&R for front or back). An option with the Paradigm's was to use the XL's for the rear, but these speakers were very "high end" although both sets had almost identical HT sound.
Finally, budget we have been looking at is 10-1200 (300 sub, 250-400 L&R and 350-400 center) which is all based on the local retailer. I've not checked out on the web yet.
