Supertweeters for the Rockets

Hi Guys,
This was posted on the AV123 forum a few days ago, and I thought it interesting because these "supertweeters" are coming into vogue, and considering the other high quality offerings by AV123, this could be really cool tweak.

From Mark Schifter:
"At Genesis we used “Planar Magnetic” drivers with great success. Arnie is THE UNDISPUTED MASTER with these design elements. I’ve also seen new models from Aerial (and others that I’m aware of that are in the works --- or about to be introduced) that make use of super response drivers. Fast… airy… detailed --- but NOT etched. These are the adjectives I’d use when describing the best of the breed. I know mbl is about to debut lots of new models with these “magneto-static” drivers operating above the “normal” tweeter level… Well… so are we…

I’ve been working on our own add-on “Super Tweeter” for some time now… and I’m really excited to share with you that the drivers are now done… and “in the house”. I’ll be working on the XO over the next few months… but certainly by mid Summer we’ll have our very own “Extended Response Tweeter” or ERT for short.

The ERT system can be added to ANY Rocket speaker. It’ll have its own little “house” (as Mr. Pu likes to call it) and can easily be paralleled to the back of your Rocket speaker connection. The XO will have phase and impedance compensation networks included to allow for seamless integration. Please do not worry about your amplifier or receiver… the ERT will be a breeze to drive. You will be given several selectable settings on the ERT to best match your particular system needs (i.e. Crossover Frequency and System Sensitivity etc.)

Each ERT system will come packed with frequency response curves and a complete Q.C. report for your perusal. System tests show really flat frequency responses out to 50 kHz and beyond…

Many of you will react with the question “why do I need this if I can’t hear that high”… My response to you is this… once you have it in your system… you’ll never want to take it out… Remember… 16-Bits was once enough also…

The hallmark characteristics of the “Rocket Sound” are all still there… you’ll just have to experience what the ERT can do for you and your system to fully understand where I’m coming from… Will ERT’s be for everyone… not likely… but for those of you (like me) that have made the leap to multi-channel high resolution music etc. there is no turning back… you’re going to love these little guys… even added to our competitor’s products.

I have not yet set the final price… but I can tell you that we’ll be around $250 ~ $299 per pair… Expensive yes… but well worth the price… The tweeter we have chosen will find its way into systems costing in excess of 50K dollars per pair… They are very expensive --- but ultra-durable. I’ve tried for months now to blow up my samples… and I cannot… These are variants of the same tweeter I’ve chosen for Strata… Aluminum / Kapton hybrid’s with “super magnetic structures”.

I want everyone to know that Steve and Sean knew nothing about this (although they’ve seen me packing up some mysterious little boxes several times)… so don’t hit them with tons of questions they cannot answer at this time. This one is all on me… I’m to blame…

Hang on friends… the future is going to be loads of fun… More later…"

All the best…
mls
