That Criterion Akira set is fantastic. I already have a copy, but fans of the film ought to consider it.

Yes they should, Aaron, because I don't have a laserdisc player anymore anyways.  Besides, you can't imagine what I paid for it when it came out.

Oh, I can imagine -- it was the most expensive LD I had bought at that point. Later it lost that honor to the Disney Pinocchio box, and finally to another Criterion: Brazil.
Brazil weighed in at $159 CDN (and I waited something like four years for that honor, too). I paid $129 CDN for Akira.

t'was the most I had spent as well. The guy at the store told me when I asked if it was out on laserdisc "well, there's good news, and bad news. Good news is, it's coming out. Bad news is, it's 129.99". Ouch. But needless to say, picked it up, and it was gorgeous.
