Sorry I haven't been around.... I'm a moderator at another forum right now (www.orangeanime.com [I'm Lutter, feel free to join, there's lots of members outside of Florida]) and also have been busy with school/getting a job in my career (convention management).

Just got the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam box... oh man is that show sweet. Going right up there with 0080 as my favorite Gundam series.

Other than that I finished Super GALS in the Valentines' Day ADV sale. Been concentrating more on the documentary and live-action Asian cinema side of my collection bit more than I used to... even got a region-free player (Philips DiVx/DVD player).

Gotta tell ya, if you like travelogue docs, it's about 60UKP, but pick up the Michael Palin: Complete Travelouge off on Amazon UK... awesome awesome boxset (with lots of adventures in Asia included [to be in the theme of this thread]).

Went to MegaCon (Florida's largest sci-fi/anime con) in Orlando last month (27,000+ attendees)... here's a pic of me (Shaun) and Arthur Dent:

Bye for now

OhOhOh! Elven Lied is coming out! That's sooo exciting! I'm squealing like a schoolgirl right now. lol....
I've been interested in this series for Ages and have wanted to watch it, I just recently "aquired" the first episode and it was Awsome...very gory, guts and blood horror mixed half and half with nice, sweet anime.
As one magizine put it :It's like Fruits Basket meets Perfect Blue, on crack! Or something to that effect...that is a pretty accurate description from what I saw of the first episode.
Ok..I'm a little too excited. Somehow I must've missed that this was being released....Also the new Full Metal Panic...have to pick that up too.. and I said I was going to pick up less shows this year! Sigh...Aww well!

3x3 EYES: This is an interesting story, but there are two strikes against it: first, it ends on a serious cliffhanger, with no kind of resolution [not that this is the fault of the producers,as the manga was still in publication and there have been more episodes made since then, but it is annoying]; and second, this release is a typical Streamline Pictures hack job, with the episodes recut into a pseudo-movie, credits for the Japanese cast omitted, and the only translation choice a rather low-quality dub. On the other hand, the fast-paced action, supernatural intrigue, transvestite romance, Chinese excorcists, and all make it quite a fun ride. So, you pays your money and you takes your chances!

I got some more stuff this weekend.

Mostly, it was X- a CLAMP TV series - BestBuy had two sets of four discs for $39.99 each. Read the manga to this show ages ago, and I think I've also seen the movie at some point

X TV is good stuff. A bit typical in its "end of the world but angsty teens can save it" and CLAMP-style jumping on buildings and lamp posts stuff, but a good show nonetheless (and the music is great IMO, I bought both soundtracks).

Matheson- "There are probably some who'll say that by doing this, we are interfering with their culture."

Gideon - "Probably. Screw them."

Wait - so you are saying that the LD you have is a chopped up dubbed version of 3X3 Eyes?? Ewwwww.
Hopefully all they cut on it were the OP/EDs

The original Japanese audio is included, on the digital tracks yet [though the label claims it is mono which I doubt], it just doesn't have subs or captions. I wouldn't keep it if it were dub-only! The contents are [according to the opening title card at least] those of the Japanese "Perfect Collection", and I don't know enough about that to swear what has been cut and what left. Hilariously, there is a section tagged as "Background Music Suite" where the ending theme [all the music seems to be orchestral] begins before the program ends and Macek just masked the credits with a title card!
They did basically the same thing to the first 4 episodes of Nadia, with the eventual result that I want to get hold of a decent version, but I'm still on the fence about this one. Streamline/Lumivision discs are all distinctly subnormal, and needless to say I don't go looking for them. What I am liable to do is, when I find a merchant with one anime LD I want, to buy all he has thus getting exposure to different shows.

Hey, does anyone want to see a concept drawing for Samurai Shampoo?

Yes, I know. It's the best thing you've ever seen.

A friend has just finished watching Berserk and he had the same feelings I did about the ending. Specifically that the series seems to end an episode short. I went back and watched the first episode and I still think there are things we don't know ...

Spoiler:
Like how Guts escapes, why he is allowed to escape and what happens to Caska. Then theres what happens to Griffiths and that mark on the Episode 1 Gut's neck. I don't mind not being spoon fed but it feels like I'm missing information to even make guesses.

Berserk Anime is like a condensed version of the manga. And it's still on going in Japan I believe... 30+ volumes or so, and we are only up to #6 ;_;. And yes, the end really didn't explain anything. For a better explanation, I'd advise those interested to pick up Dark Horse's Berserk manga... It has a few characters not in the anim

I am putting in an explanation but in a spoiler window...

Spoiler:
Basically, that brand marks off Guts and the rest of the Band of the Hawks as a sacrifice in exchange for Griffith to become the Godhand Femto. In the Manga, I believe a character named Skullknight comes and saves both Guts and Caska, and the story continutes on from there.

ChrisDAC - hmm at least you have a JPN audio track. For that I am glad. I'd say go for the Nadia collections that ADV put out, they ain't too bad and are easier on the wallet.

Woo Jae (or is it Jae Woo?)

Thanks. That helps. Except now I want to read the Manga. And I'm under orders from my wife that I can't start collecting new stuff. Still I might have to see what I can find locally. Unless the Manga is hard to get?

Just to clarify. The Manga is up to 30 but the Anime only made it to 6, right.

I picked up the 1st Berserk Manga up from Borders on the way home from work. For anyone interested it looks like it's up to 28 in Japan and 5 English versions are out here. Looks like every 3 months so far for the English versions.
