I watched Ghost in the Shell:SAC vol. 4 last night. Four good episodes, but none were related to the 'Laughing Man' arc. I'm looking forward to the next one.

FYI: Don't order from the SPHiatt.com store I posted earlier in the thread. He sent me a bootleg even though he clearly shows the FMP ADV Box and is not responding to my emails.

Do I have any recourse with PayPal?

Eric:

If you used a credit or a debit card, you probably should talk to your bank/provider. They take this stuff pretty seriously. My policy with stores is that if they show even one bootleg item, I won't deal with them.

It doesn't hurt to try. You never know with paypal, though. I would say put the phrase "illegal bootleg copy" in there as they can be pretty dense.

Gideon - "Probably. Screw them."

Never do a chargeback with PayPal because they'll just take the money out of your account and ban you anyways.

That's why I won't use Paypal. Frankly, they're not worth the headache.

Got in a package of LDs yesterday, and just finished watching Gall Force: Earth Chapter. This is not bad stuff; the animation is really sub-par in #1 but picks up a little in #s 2 and 3. The latter two episodes each begin with narration of the previous episode from the android Catty who appears in all Gall Force series as the narrator. There is a good deal of reuse of footage [not to speak of ideas and character designs -- that is what the "Eternal Story" idea is all about] from previous episodes and storylines, and I really want to get hold of more of this stuff. Particularly I need to look for the exclusive "Rhea Gall Force" which is the real episode #1, or you could say these are Rhea eps. 2-4, which happened as a result of some bizarre industry thing about 1990 [also the reason for Bubblegum Crisis being followed by the inferior Bubblegum Crash].

I could just strangle myself. This is what I get for completing the U.S. set of Giant Robo -- which thanks to those clowns at Manga Entertainment is only Episodes 1-4 out of 7 total, and there are also 2 special episodes unreleased here. I'm pretty sure they didn't bother with a DVD either. I guess I'll wind up buying the JP discs; I don't much fancy the Hong Kong ones though they do provide some kind of English support. It ends on a cliffhanger! Aaugh!

Christopher:

I believe this is what you're looking for. Media Blasters has the licence now.

All:

No disks for me this week. I'm trying to catch up on the backlog. In related news, I convinced my wife to let me get the big screen TV that I've been wanting once we get the credit cards paid off.

Yup. And still not totally released!
Blast those mutton heads at Manga anyway. Hopefully this Media Blasters outfit will do better. They do still seem to be giving out "Folger" or "Bolger" for what anyone with an ear can hear is "Vogler", though. Can't figure that one out.

Foreign Ministry may donate anime programs to Third World

The Foreign Ministry is considering providing popular anime programs for free to television stations in developing countries to promote cultural exchanges and help expand the market for the genre, sources said Saturday.

The ministry will most probably provide the money for the project to the Japan Foundation, an independent administrative agency under the ministry's jurisdiction, which will purchase the broadcasting rights of the programs, the sources said.

The sources said the ministry and the foundation were talking about purchasing several anime series of 30-minute episodes including one about soccer because of the sport's popularity worldwide.

Anime has become extremely popular in Europe and North America over the past few years, and about 60 percent of cartoon shows aired in the world are produced in Japan.

This popularity, however, has yet to permeate developing countries, where the audiovisual market is not as well developed and broadcasters lack the money to import Japanese products.

The ministry started market research in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East last year, asking its embassies to report what types of cartoons were popular, or if the countries have aired Japanese programs.

What?! Uh, is it me or is that one of the worst ideas I've ever heard? Seriously, do you think a 3rd world country will care about anime? Or even have the TVs or electricity needed to watch it? Couldn't they make a monetary donation to the 3rd world countries instead?

Tony:

Not every third-world country is an electricity-free backwater. While this might be a bad idea for, say, Bangladesh, Costa Rica (for example) certainly could benefit from it.
