Ep 102 wasn't filler, it actually started a new story. The problem is that Naruto is rapidly catching up with the manga and, because it's pretty much the most popular anime in Japan right now, the producers are kind of hesitant to let that happen (the same thing happened with One Piece).

Oh well, at least the Naruto fillers are better than the One Piece ones... I really liked the unmaking Kakashi story though, it made me laugh

I was't big on Shopping Arcade (although the ep that makes fun of Dragon Quest was funny), but Excel Saga was great. You need some understanding of anime to get the very most out of it - but even if some of the mockeries slide by you, the show is very funny. Although hit and miss in the middle a bit, it surprises you towards the end in that there is a real story hidden in the madness

Still need to get the Emergency Food Supply Menchi plushie.

Gideon - "Probably. Screw them."

The kakashi ep. had its moments, but still, I felt it was a little out of place, and very close to the last filler episode we had at the hot springs. I understand that it is all in fun but Sasuke was really out of character for that ep, IMHO.

I'll jump on teh "teh" bandwagon!

Quote:
I am surprised that you think the anime market will be in decline and/or demise
I just re-though my stance on this whole thing. Let me explain...

It will decline in popularity EVENTUALLY. It might take a century, but I feel it will happen EVENTUALLY. However, for teh next 30 to 50 years, anime will likely increase in popularity. Unless there is a MAJOR mainstream breakthrough, anime will eventually fade in popularity. Teh main reason I say this is because of teh ever-increasing popularity of CG animated stuff. Also, when I say "major mainstream breakthrough", I'm talking about something that is really popular and loved by A LOT of people and changes entertainment as we know it. Some examples from teh past would be Teh Beatles, Star Wars, Teh Ramones, and more recently Nirvana. Sure, anime has had a few big breakthroughs in teh past (biggest example being Pokemon) but it is nothing on teh level of what I just mentioned. It's just my personal prediction, which could very well be wrong.

Are you hoping teh anime sales in the US falls to nothing and all interest is lost for good? If so why do you still post in this thread.
No. I'm not hoping that at all. Sorry if you took my little analysis in teh wrong way.

Quote:
I know you've told me you have lost interest in anime so is there a point to sharing your opinion with teh rest of us who still appreciate it for its goodness?
I haven't said I COMPLETELY lost interest in it, but I have said that I am not as big of a fan of it now as I was a year ago. I still do like anime, and I'm sorry if you thought differently. Maybe my wording is bad.

I don't want to sound like an ass, but lets face it I am an ass so thats teh only way I know how to sound hehehe.
Gosh Mike, stop being such an ass!

I'm a little miffed because the manufacturer of Dead and Buried put the security sticker right on the slip cover, and removing it caused some damage.
I really hate when that happens. Not quite as bad, but still very annoying, I hate it when teh stickers leave sticky shit on your DVD case. I remember when I was opening my Ron White DVD, they had used what could possibily be teh stickiest sticker I have ever seen on a DVD case, and after removing it, teh plastic had creases and sticky stuff on it. At least I was able to get teh sticky stuff away with Goo Gone, but teh creases are still there.

Any other recommendations on what I may want to try watching next?
For zany comedies? Well, FLCL and Excel Saga are teh only two I've seen out of that category, so it looks like my job here is done!

Quote:
I mean I'd recommend Crest of the Stars, and its sequels Banner of the Stars I and II
And I would second teh recommendation of "Master Ramen Chef"!

Mike, you have failed in your quest to misspell "the" (That doesn't count towards my quest, because it's in quotation marks ) as "teh" for teh whole day. Hell, you even failed it right after you declared that you will misspell it!
Quote:
Well in an effort to make fun of Woo for today I will be spelling the word "the" as teh for the remainder of teh day.
Quote:
Even though I will be the first to buy Daphne only so I can see teh end, I still didn't think it was that great a series.

So, you have lost teh contest!

Hi Woo,

I was specifically interested in the "crazy absurd comedy" genre, or whatever the hell FLCL is.

I read a description of CREST and it does sound interesting. I'll have to check it out one of these days (probably after I finish with Neon Genesis -- it looks like they're being released once every two months?)

Heh, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is probably the ONLY thing I've seen that is close to the absurdity of FLCL (also by GAINAX).

You seem to be becoming a GAINAX whore like some of the other people on the forum (seeing as you're also watching Eva and FLCL). I'd suggest trying out some of their other shows like Nadia (now available in 2 cheap bricks, 40 episodes), Otaku no Video (2-episode OVA, AnimEigo), Mahoromatic (2 12-episode series on 6 discs), and some of their features (the Eva movies [Death/Rebirth and End of Eva], Wings of Honnamaise).

I wouldn't call FLCL a "crazy absurd comedy". I call it "a psychotic episode of television". And I will recommend Nadia, Honneamise and, need I say it again, GunBuster. I know it's import-only, but it's just SO good! Also I would venture to suggest that EVA would make more sense to someone who had seen it; it was supposed to be 26 episodes originally, though the 6 which got made don't need any padding, and after it was finished [with GAINAX's habitual brush with bankruptcy] Anno had a nervous collapse and, when he recovered, made the later show. And, of course, FLCL riffs on EVA; who needs "Jay and Silent Bob" when you have self-referentiality like this? Notice that FLCL is six half-hour episodes at 2 to a disc. This is how GunBuster was first released to Laserdisc [I've got 'em], and you can bet there's no coincidence.

First time posting to this thread, but I wanted to check on a possible recall for the 'Ghost In The Shell SAC' Volume 2 DVD. I went to Circuit City this morning, and they refused to ring it up, and proceeded to remove the stock from the shelf. I haven't gotten the chance to check at Best Buy or elsewhere. Manga's website says nothing about this.

Their was a mislabeling which caused all the regular editions of GitS:SAC v.2 to have the DTS disc instead of the DD5.1 disc.. which could have caused problems for people who don't have DTS hardware and also omits the extras. The SE has the same labeling problem, but also includes the mislabeled 'regular' DD5.1 disc as disc 1.

Manga screws up everything they touch, I could have told you this months ago

No duh. For instance, they either released dub-only LASERDISCS [who the ---deleted by censor--- would buy?] or labeled dual-language discs as "English Language Version". I actually don't know which, because I've never actually been able to bring myself to buy one! Not to mention their dubs of perfectly good shows are disastrous messes of mistranslation and extraneous profanity, the former apparently the result of incompetence, the latter in an attempt to get a "15" or higher rating from the BBFC [UK film censorship] in order to improve sales amongst their target audience, beer-swilling, curry-snarfing deracinated East London teenagers!
Spoiler:
That is actually true.

All:

A pretty quiet day for me, since I was home recovering from some food poisoning . I did manage to watch Saiyuki vol. 4 and finish up the extras disk from the Star Wars Trilogy boxed set.
