Michael:

LOL, I didn't quite mean that. This should be more clear: it spurred me to start picking up the manga which lead me to the anime. When I picked up the single, it had one of those 'obi' wrappers advertising Inu Yasha on it. My first thought was 'Oh wow, haven't heard of this one before'. I looked around, and found that Viz was putting out the manga. I read the first volume, and liked it enough to pick up more and get the series when it started to come out.

James:

I think they seem older, because the VAs (the Japanese ones, at least) are older than that, and their maturity kind of comes out in the characters.

All:

I only watched one disk last night: Neon Genesis Evangelion vol. 1. I'm going to try and get the next three volumes watched tonight.

John.

Well, I can easily recommend an anime which Rob Lutter recommended me on AIM.

Hajime no Ippo, or Fighting Spirit, is an anime about Ippo Makunouchi, a son who lives with his mother (and no dad, who I presume is is deceased or departed) and runs a fishing business. Although he is a shy and timid kid, he decides to get into Boxing after a local pro boxer saves him from the local bullies. In the first five episodes on disc #1, we see him learn - on his own - how to fight and be a boxer. His trials and tribulations are ours while we watch it. The way his training and matches progress is just the Sports Formula done to perfection. His first match is with a pro-level boxer, and displays his power and pure force of will as he gets up and up and up again.

Can't wait until disc 2 for the rematch...

In other news, not much else is going on here....

I actually thought the lead character was really annoying, prefering books over her own life and being really whiny about it.

I guess because I have enough friends like this (who happen to be in their own world when it comes to books) that I can relate to it. The opening part with her in her house is hilarious to me.

As for anime with adult main characters, "The Legend Of Black Heaven" also comes to mind.

Interesting that the last episode on the first disc of Master Keaton pretty much nails down about how old he is. Considering he has a 17 year old daughter, and that his wife was pregnant while he was still in school, it put him in his late 30s.

As far as Saikano - I saw the first disc. Seemed a bit unrealistic in plot (like many anime) but very good - sad. Stacey has seen the second volume and it's one of her favorite shows. She says it's really depressing.

I found the dub on Saikano to be very sub-par. And I'm not too picky about dubs (and I'm OK with Banner of the Stars dub - at least in Banner only some of the minor characters have bad dubbing).

The show itself seemed good, and Stacey loves it. Depends on if you like depressing.

As far as ROD OVA, the only thing that I actually liked about the OVA was the characters' obsession with books. I can understand But it felt rushed, and lacking a good story. IMO. Saw disk 1 of the series, and it seemed better (cohesive story).

Matheson- "There are probably some who'll say that by doing this, we are interfering with their culture."

Gideon - "Probably. Screw them."

Dave: I agree with ROD feeling really rushed, and alot of the "historical figures" I was not really familiar with. The guy with the hangglider was particularly embarrassing. I love books too, but she was just way too over the top with it... can't even remember her name now. Did like the ending, which was memorable and a bit different so it scores points there.

Sentimental Journey arrived in the mail today... had preordered this one awhile back and completely forgot about it. Would not have been my first choice for preorders to "keep" but atleast it was one, cheap so it didn't totally break me, and two, its a large chunk of material to plow through unlike alot of the other anime preorders I had to kill awhile back.

I guess John's Evil Minions [coming soon to a theatre near you!] have no power over used LaserDiscs... either that, or they can't get past the Old Guard. "The Guard dies but does not surrender"... because if they do, their pensions don't pay off! In any case, I've recieved 4 LDs today, in addition to the 3 I got Monday. Thus, this is a banner week for me.

I realise some of you may pick up umpteen DVDs a day, but what do I care? I'm happy. See?

Well, I forgot to mention this earlier, but Innoncence was 28th place at the box office last weekend. It made $317,722 in 41 locations with an average of $6,760 per location.

Hmm.

Well, I guess my overly enthusiastic poorly written review of Fighting Spirit (or Hajime no Ippo) turned people off. That said I rewatched five episodes of Disc One, and Damn! It! Is! Still! Damn! Good! Also watched Disc 1 of Big O, and JohnAD was right in that I'd probably be better to get the second season right away.

But I won't - I got too many series that I am working on. Not to mention manga. Not to mention games. Well, You all Get The Picture....

ChrisDAC: Woo HOO! more Laserdiscs. You are worthy of the title, Supreme Anime LD Collector of the HTF Advanced Anime Thread!

Christopher:

I'm just luring you into a false sense of security .

Woo:

LOL, I'm in the same boat with The Big O II.

All:

I didn't get to watch as much as I wanted last night, since I had to stay late at work. I did get through Neon Genesis Evangelion vols. 2 and 3, though. More tonight .

John.

JohnAD:

There is a trick to that:

Give up sleep for anime.

You KNOW you want to. So JUST DO IT .

Anyhoo, everyone remember those of us who are in FL and in Hurricane Jeanne's path, and wish them happy and good (anime or non anime) vibes...
