Yes it is . I don't usually pony up for boxed sets, but this one was worth it.

I was able to get the remaining disks for $70, only $10 more than the Perfect Collection from DDD would have cost and the bonus of no wait
|
And no brick! I really don't like the brick packaging. Ind. disks are much better.

Well, my Battle Angel LD arrived, and I have to say this programme is really good. Gut-wrenching in places, but amazing. Unfortunately, my copy is rotted to perdition! Blast ADV for using the notorious sony DADC plant for its pressing! Now I'll have to buy the Japanese discs... and until then envy Woo. :b I don't know why ADV let the license lapse, but you can't even get it on US DVD anymore. Lucky Woo.

What is this brick packaging like? I've read you guys complain about it but I can't imagine what you're describing. Anyone have any images handy?

Kevin:
A brick is a standard-sized multiple keep case, which holds 3-7 disks. If you've seen the Crest of the Stars or Genesis Climber Mospeada complete collections, you've seen a brick. I personally don't mind them, but if I had a better inkjet printer, I'd ThinPak mine, since I need the space.
All:
I chugged all three disks of FLCL this evening. My main thought while watching the first disk was 'WTF? People shouldn't watch this while they're taking hullucinagens' . By the end, though, I was really impressed. FLCL reminded me of moments from Excel Saga and Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. And the music was something else. I think I'm going to have to pick up some of The Pillows' CDs at the earliest opportunity. 'B+', highly recommended for those looking for something truly different.

Heh - that'd be as confusing has having a dub and a sub at the same time - no thanks, man
|
It wouldn't be. Here's an example of all the formats for the Japanese found in the thread...
Raw: Ganbatte!
Tonysubbed: Ganbatte! (Good luck!)
Tonydubbed: Good luck!

Tony-B: What I *assumed you* meant was that you'd have a dub coming into your ears, while your eyes would be tracking the more literal and often less profane subtitles, thus causing cognitive dissonance for the ears and eyes.
ChrisDAC - it's an oldie but a goodie, and the manga is being re-released in cheaper format by viz in their "Action" line of manga (currently upto #4, I believe). Highly recommended, both the (old) dvd and the manga. By the way, if any of you are in the New York City area, you can look me up for free lodging for short period of time (i.e., a weekend or so). Just let me know in Advance via AIM in advance, my aim id is Wooster0003.
If you were over here, ChrisDAC, you'd say: Damn he has a large collection. But he doesn't have any LDs! WTF?
Not much to say, but that I finished Ai Yori Aoshi #4. Wanted to finish the series, but something came up with a friend and we had to hang out. Hopefully I'll finish it tonight.

FLCL really required multiple re-watching to truly absorb all of it. Hell, I still haven't really seen the last disc, but I've seen the first few discs multiple times. Each time you start to get more of the 'story'

Woo:
Yes it is . I'm going to pick up TeXhnolyze vol. 3 and Wolf's Rain vol. 2 after work. I've got to save the rest of my money for this week for a trip I'm going on at the beginning of the month. Next week, I'm only picking up Azumanga Daioh vol. 4 for the same reason. We'll be in Pennsylvania, and we were thinking of heading up to NYC for a day, but with the RNC in town at that time, I don't think that will happen.
Dave:
Even the day after, I'm still amazed by it. I forgot to mention that I really liked the South Park, Lupin III, and Eva 'homages'.
