Just a quick question seeing as I'm bored....:
What are your favorite series that have come out in 04?
Is it just me or are they not standing up to 03? I mean, there's ROD, Saikano and Texhnolyze I suppose but I don't think that stands up to Twelve Kingdoms or RahXephon.....
Just bored looking for opinions....making sure it's just not me failing to collect enough! *heaven forbid!*

Well, so far, my favorites that I picked up in '04 have been Haibane-Renmei, Someday's Dreamers, and Zaion - I wish you were here. For shows that I started in '03 and finished in '04, I would also add Berserk, Fushigi Yuugi, and Chobits. For me, it's been a pretty good year for collecting anime series .
As for your second question, I disagree. I haven't seen Read or Die, Saikano, or Twelve Kingdoms, so I can't comment on those specific examples, but Last Exile (which started in '03, but is mostly an '04 show) so far looks like it's going to be an 'A' show, as does Wolf's Rain. TeXhnolyze is more than a little bit out there, so I'm reserving my judgment until the end, but it has potential, IMHO.
All:
I watched Rurouni Kenshin vol. 20 last night. Some pretty good episodes, and I'm looking forward to seeing the conclusing of the current 'mini-arc'. So far, I haven't been disappointed at all by the Meiji-arc episodes.

OK, I'll relent-
.Hack=.Crap
I don't think I'll be able to finish it. Why is it getting such good reviews? I admit it looks and sounds amazing, but the story is totally incomprehensible.

Well, as evidenced by John's list, a lot of shows started up in '03 and are finishing up (or are already finished) this year. He already mentioned Chobits, Haibane Renmei, and Last Exile, three great shows, and I'd add Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi to the list.
As for series that have STARTED this year, there have been several that have caught my interest. One is Comic Party, a great comedy about a guy that gets dragged into the world of fan comics by his enthusiastic friend. Really funny show, and easy to relate to for an anime/manga fan. World of Narue was a cute, sci-fi romantic comedy. I haven't seen that much of Kaleido Star yet, but it has the potential to be a great comedy/drama. And Tokyopop started their release of Marmalade Boy this year, which is a romantic comedy classic. But my favorite of the year so far has got to be Azumanga Daioh. Osaka, Chiyo-chan, Yukari -- you simply can't beat these characters.

You're asking the WRONG PERSON! I actually haven't seen any series to have come out domestically this year. :b However, if you include fansubs, I'd probably say Samurai Champloo. This is by far the best show I've seen in quite some time.
Eric, call it .Crap//SUCK. That way we can combine both Rob's nickname for it and your's and come up with something truly descriptive!

Hem....I'd have to agree with the stuff listed. i was thinking of Someday's Dreamers, Chobits, Haibane as 03 shows....did they end in 04? I honestly don't remember...lol.
I forgot about Azumanaga, I have the first disk of Wolf's Rain but haven't watched it yet. Yes, Kaleido Star is wonderful but I still don't think I've seen anything stack up next to RaXephon....
Maybe I'm biased cause I really first started collecting anime in 03...lol

I personally can't say I've seen much besides Last Exile this year that I REALLY liked. I pretty much finished my anime collection with Evangelion in January (just to ebay it in May in prep for the new releases).
Of course, Stacey bought Kino's Journey. That was quality stuff.
Matheson- "There are probably some who'll say that by doing this, we are interfering with their culture."
Gideon - "Probably. Screw them."
