Michael:

I didn't notice it on my setup, since it sounded fine to me, but I'm no audiophile. If an exchange program comes up, I'll worry about it then.

All:

I've had a somewhat busy anime watching weekend. Yesterday, I finished up Escaflowne with volumes seven and eight. What a great show. I also watched the Escaflowne: The Movie and Akira. Today I finished up some recent purchases: Strawberry Eggs volume three and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex volume 1 SE. GITS:SAC was great, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it. I also started rewatching Tenchi Muyo! with disk one of the ultimate edition.

John.

Most Recent Purchases: The Call of Cthulhu, Count Dracula, The Gravedancers, The Legend of Hell House, Prom Night, Starship Troopers, 28 Weeks Later, Unrest

Currently Collecting: Inu Yasha, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam

Total DVDs: 1436 Anime DVDs: 776 R2 DVDs: 41 R3 DVDs: 6

To anyone who bought the Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex DVD 1 or special edition

Whoa, wait a minute. I thought that there is no DTS on the regular edition of the GITS:SAC Volume 1 disc. Am I wrong?

John, did you read what I said about the 20% off all anime sale at Best Buy? Do you have any suggestions of stuff to get?

Tony,

No you are correct, I just mistyped earlier. I was tired :|

John,
Did you listen to your OST? They definitely encoded it wrong as track 8 contains two different songs, but are one track.

Mike: HAHA! I'm right you're wrong!

Off topic, but I think the 10th anniversary edition of Less Than Jake's Pezcore album has the same type of problem you were talking about. Track 18 has two songs on it. I'm sure they had a problem mastering it.

In case any of you care, all anime dvds are 20% off at Best Buy this week. I actually might have to take advantage of this good deal!

Any suggestions?

My first recommendation would have been Martian Successor Nadesico, if it weren't about to be rereleased. This one has it all: great characters, a great story, and a LOT of comedy.

For some reason, I am compelled to recommend Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. I know you found the first few episodes of "Excel Saga" funny, and I found "Abenobashi" to be just as funny as "Excel," but a little bit more accessible early on.

Other than that, you might want to keep an eye out for ADV's Essential Anime line. Titles like Golden Boy and Cutey Honey at excellent prices for those who, ahem... appreciate a good bargain.

Hmm...

Tired as heck, since at Otakon, I ended up sleeping at 4am, 2:30 am, and 2:00am respectively. Had to get up at 7am, 730am, and 8am. (For those of you confused by that, it's thurs eve, friday eve, and saturday eve - Otakon was from Friday to Sunday.).

Saw L'Arc en Ciel LIVE, with pyrotechnics and lightshow (blinding) not to mention DEAFENING SOUND. We filled the bottom and the second tier of the Mariner's Stadium.

Saw Angella, who sings the Opening and Ending Theme to STELLVIA, a new show by Geneon, and who also performed Cruel Angel's Thesis, which is Evangelion's Opening Theme song.

Got Otakon T-shirt, and Otazine - a magazine for otaku. Scored Free Otakon 2002 t-shirt.

Got lots of series at Otakon.

Rahxephon - got all the series and movie.
Chobits - got all the series
Twelve Kingdoms - got caught up with this series, got #4-6.
Patlabor - got caught up with this seiries, got 7-8
Haibanei Renmei - got the rest of this series and completed it.
Last Exile -got the rest of this series, I think upto 5.
Read or Die, - got OVA and the Limited edition TV series box with #1 (folds out like a journal).
Supergals - got all of this series (2-6)
Dangaioh- got this ova
Great Dangaioh - got all 4 of this, at $10 each.
Angelic Layer #7 - got it, and finished the series last night. Fun stuff
Ikki Tousen - got #1 with box
Sailor Moon Super S, - got this, Geneon themselves broke street.
Sailor Moon movie box - got this.
DaiGuard - got two discs of this series.
Tsukikaze Ran - got two discs of this series.
Arcardia of My Youth - got this from Animeigo. Scored Free shirt....
EDIT: Steel Angel Kurumi brick - got this signed by Monica Rial, though I don't watch dubs.
It seems she's been in lots and lots of ADV dubs - see this link

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0722676/
.

There's more, but I haven't catalogued all of it yet; need to get to that this weekend.

Import CDs:
Do As Infinity - got Do the Best with DVD.
Kingdom Hearts Original OST
Bubblegum Crisis OST
Xenosaga Episode 1 OST

Manga - started new series - (got 12 manga)
BLEACH- got vol 1.
Got caught up with many series. Oh - and finished reading Ai Yori Aoshi 1-4 on the bus, along with Megatokyo 1-2. Fun stuff, this is....

Thank god for credit cards Paying them back stinks though

Tony -

Since I got watching anime again thanks to Crest of the Stars, and we all know that's how you starting watching anime, I thought I should at least make a suggestion.

Personally, I always recommend Berserk. If you character driven stories (which CoTS definitely is) but like actiony stuff (most of the Adult Swim lineup) I would go for a couple volumes of Berserk.

You know how you always say "I can just see it on TV for free!"...

Trust me, you'll never see Berserk on TV. Too violent. There's no way you could censor out all the blood, and people being chopped up, etc.

In the director interview, he said that he didn't go with the normal "flash of light" for blades. He wanted a gritty realistic feel, and he wanted to show the real costs/horrors of war.

OK, Maybe Adult Swim could edit it enough, but then it would suck a lot more

Matheson- "There are probably some who'll say that by doing this, we are interfering with their culture."

Gideon - "Probably. Screw them."

Berserk is a slam dunk as a show. It's got depth, a great story and characters that WORK so darned well that you can't help but feel for them. And NO, it ain't sappy- as Dave said, GRITTY.

Just don't try to make any sense of the OP/ED. My brain almost exploded trying ....

Hmm

Anyhoo, if anyone else on these boards on the east coast can make it to otakon 2005, I'd love to meetcha in person...

Woo:

Two posts in one day? Shocking! . Glad you had fun at Otakon. Looks like you'll have plenty to watch. I was going to splurge with at least part of my bonus when I get it on the 20th, but it looks like I'll be picking up some ThinPaks, since I just found out yesterday that I'm down to my last 12, and I'll be ordering the third Rurouni Kenshin box and volume four of Strawberry Eggs from DDD on Thursday when I get paid.

Tony:

I'll third Dave and Woo's suggestion of Berserk. That's definitely a show that you'll like. Oh, and I did notice your post, I just didn't have time to comment yesterday .

John.
