Tony, I don't even understand why you're in this thread... honestly, no one gives a shit about the DVDs you DON'T buy. Really... we get it... you don't buy DVDs, move along, nothing to see here!

Hehehe.

Azumanga vol. 3: watched a little of this today, first two eps. The show continues to be "cute" but not the laugh-fest I envisioned during the pre-release hype machine. Still, time flies by when I watch it which is a good thing, I was completely taken off guard when the first ep ended, thinking there was another ten minutes to go atleast! The booklet is also well done (rare to see inserts in DVDs these days), I enjoy all the translation notes and comments from the directors, etc for each ep. Plus this one came with a kitty pin! Oh how cool! It continues to be fun but not groundbreaking.

Alanna - have you read the manga? I'm definitely enjoying the show, but I find the manga even funnier.

Ben - Manga scares and fascinates me. I love looking through it at the bookstores, but a pricetag of ten bucks or more per volume frightens my bank account. I am a Chobits nut but cannot justify spending $70 bucks just to read the whole thing, and I know that just one of these little picture books I'll be able to breeze through in an hour or two.
Oh well.

On manga-
You know, I've never been a comic book guy (skipped that phase of my childhood straight to books). I somehow can't see spending $10 a volume (or even $7 on a good deal) when I could get a book for the same price. Too many books that I would buy.
I figure between books, videogames, anime, and computer games, I have too many hobbies as it is.
I wish libraries had manga.
I have considered picking up the Berserk manga though, since I would like to catch the rest of the story...
Matheson- "There are probably some who'll say that by doing this, we are interfering with their culture."
Gideon - "Probably. Screw them."
-Crusade, Visitors from Down the Street

My public library has been steadily adding manga and graphic novels. Yours might have too -- they might be filed somewhere strange that you just haven't found them, and it is that sort of thing which most often gets lost in the catalogue. Of course, you might have to go somehwere other than Midland, but there's always InterLibrary Loan. Check it out!

Does anyone know why the EVA Platinum DVD + Box is now a "special order" on Amazon.com. I placed an order for it two weeks ago, and I never got an email from them regarding the change. The single DVD release is shipping, but not the box. Anyone know why?

Blew through Someday's Dreamers in one day. Another bring a hanky series. Thanks for all who suggested this one. I/we loved it.
I have Ai Yori Aoshi on the way. I have cash to burn now though.
Please, give me another drama/tear-jerker in the same vein.

Hmm, just check my amazon order on their website. It's still giving me a shipping estimate of tomorrow. Guess I'll find out what the deal is tomorrow. I too placed my order a couple of weeks ago.

^Well if you check the actual product page it says "Please note that titles occasionally go out of print or publishers run out of stock. We will notify you within 4 to 6 weeks if we have trouble obtaining this title.". That doesn't give me much hope - usually with Amazon the product ships the friday before the release date.
Also a strange phenomenon is happening on other sites, like DVDplanet, which actually cancelled the release for the first DVD sans box. Other sites, are either still waiting on the preoders or reporting the product as a special order (as in the case of Amazon.ca)
I'm not taking the risk, I called the Right Stuf, and asked them if they had any instock. They said no, but are excepting a shipment this week, with enough extras for other preoders - so I ordered one.
ADV does have them instock, but the shipping to Canada is 17 bucks, so no thank you.

My own 2 yen on manga -
For me, manga are a happy intersection between anime and books, so I don't have any problem spending $10 a pop for the little buggers. The only caveat is that they take a back seat to anime when it comes time to dole out the spending money. I'm sure Rob and Woo have much bigger manga collections than I do, but I've got a fairly good-sized one for the amount of money I spend on other pursuits.
Zen:
I'll have to work on that one. Millennium Actress certainly fills the bill for me, but as far as series go, I can't think of one right now.

Summer is our tight months and we just had to fix 3 problems with 2 of our cars, so buying has been pretty limited for me.
Things I've missed:
Twelve Kingdoms v.6
Wolf's Rain v.1 with box
RahXephon movie with box
Evangelion Platinum v.1 with box
Millenium season 1
Things I'm likely to miss:
Twelve Kingdoms v.7
Wolf's Rain v.2
Last Exile v.5
I'm going to check Best Buy on my way home and may pick up the EVA box if they have it. I was all set to just get the disc but then I found out there is a box. I missed out on the Chobits one and I poorly chose not to get the S-Cry-Ed one, so I don't think I'll make that mistake again.

Paul,
Good to know. Thanks. If tomorrow my shipping date has been delayed, I'm just going to cancel it, and go hunting around the anime shops here in Toronto and see if I can find it.
