Tony:

Yes - I know her secret identity: Alanna, mild-mannered anime fan, turns into Mahou Shoujo Anime Alanna in order to protect truth, justice, love, and anime from the evil clutches of the No*Fan, a villain who hates anime (and love, justice, and truth, too).

I did, when I first used it. See my comment above. More than one translation costs extra .

Funny, I thought ADV was involved with Ryvius somehow. I didn't think Bandai would release something to the U.S. wherefrom they lost money in Japan. Silly me.

Well, as far as the Escaflowne movie, it wasn't that great. Typical kind of empty fantasy anime movie. OK.

Now the series, that was great stuff.

As far as Evangelion being a must-see, it depends, I guess, on how much you like movies, etc that don't really give you all the answers at the end. If you like stuff that makes you put the pieces together, and come up with your own conclusion, you will probably enjoy it a lot.

I think it's only a must see for certain kinds of fans. Anime attracts people that like action stuff, people that like the romantic comedy and shoujo stuff, etc. If you like typical movies that come to a nice tied up, typical American-style conclusion, and don't like movies that end otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it as highly.

Umm...trying to think of some American movies that have ambigous endings and sometimes confusing story ... Momento? um, can't think of anything else). As far as anime, Lain has a kind of unresolved ending too. Anyway, if you eat up that kind of stuff, you'll probably love Evangelion. Others like it too just because of the action & characters.

Christopher:

Serial Experiments Lain didn't do well in Japan either, but it did far better over here. My guess is that Bandai's not having any problem making money on Infinite Ryvius over here.

John: I am already spreading truth, love, justice and anime to all through the use of the current anime mascot, KIBA! Yes, I take him to work and use him as an excuse to talk about anime. As for the wand... I already use it on my anime hating bf.. its "watch Chobits with me or else I'll do more with this thing than just bop you on the head with it..." buahahhaha...

Tony: I have tried some of that stuff and don't see how these kids of today can stand it. Distortion, yuck, awful singing.. it sucks and gives me indigestion. Therion made my bf throw up though, quite literally, so I dunno.

Dave: if you are looking for a good example of confusing movies, how about Mulholland Drive? It took me about a day of contemplation to figure what the hell was going on in that one. Another Lynch film, Blue Velvet is pretty weird too but not a patch on Mulholland Drive! By the way it is a good movie if you don't mind lesbians and confusion. I know some people were really offended by it.

I've meant to watch Mulholland Drive as I've heard of it before. I will add it to my greencine account as soon as I can afford to turn it back on (it's been on hiatus since the wedding trip).
