WHV Press Release: Hey There, It's Yogi Bear -and- The Man Called Flintstone

HEY THERE, IT’S YOGI BEAR AND
THE MAN CALLED FLINTSTONE
ON DVD FOR THE FIRST TIME
DECEMBER 2, 2008
FROM WARNER HOME VIDEO

Full-Length Classic Hanna-Barbera Feature Films for the Whole Family to Enjoy
Now Fully Re-mastered Feature Brilliant Picture and Sound Quality

BURBANK, CA (October 8, 2008) – He’s smarter than the average bear and that’s why he’s the star of his own feature-length, classic animated film titled Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear, which will be released on DVD for the first time December 2, 2008 from Warner Home Video (WHV). On the same day, WHV will release another animated film classic, The Man Called Flintstone, a hilarious spy spoof featuring everyone’s favorite Stone-Aged family the Flintstones. Both titles are newly re-mastered and feature dazzling picture and sound quality. Each will retail for $19.98 SRP.

Hide your “pic-a-nic” baskets! Yogi Bear isn’t your average bear in his first theatrical full-length movie, Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear. Tired of Yogi’s “pic-a-nic” basket stealing shenanigans, Jellystone National Park's Ranger Smith ships Yogi off to the San Diego Zoo. Yogi however, outwits Ranger Smith by substituting another bear while he remains in Jellystone. Yogi's girlfriend Cindy, thinks he’s been shipped away, goes looking for him and is captured by a circus owner who forces her to perform a perilous high-wire act. Yogi Bear, joined by pal Boo Boo, travel together across the country to rescue Cindy in this animated adventure that explores the world from Jellystone to Venice.

The Man Called Flintstone marked the Stone-Aged family’s first theatrical film. The adventure begins when Fred is recruited by a secret organization to take the place of Rock Slag, an injured agent who happens to be Fred's exact double. His mission: to travel to Eurock to find the arch-baddie Green Goose and stop his plan of world domination. The catch is that Fred is unable to tell his family or friends about the task. So pretending to be on a modern Stone-Age family vacation with Wilma, Barney and Betty, Fred wings it overseas for some wild and woolly mammoth intrigue.

“These films are some of Hanna-Barbera’s finest ventures onto the big screen,” said Amit Desai, WHV Vice President of Family, Animation & Sports Marketing. He added, “We feel strongly about preserving these films for future generations and we put our best efforts towards re-mastering the originals in order to offer consumers improved picture and sound quality. Now these films look and sound better than ever and are terrific collectibles to include in any home entertainment library.”

I hope they are in their correct theatrical ratio of 1.75:1 since they are stating they care about preserving these films for future generations. The breifly released Man from Flintstone release from about 3 years ago was not in its original theatrical ratio and was the 1.37:1 TV formatted version. It would be a shame if they are remastered but not OAR.

I hope "The Man Called Flintstone" is released unedited and in correct aspect ratio. The Canadian DVD by Warner Bros. excised the Columbia Pictures logo with Wilma Flintstone standing in for Lady Liberty. The VHS version retained this footage so there is no good reason for Warners to cut it from their DVD.

I sure hope that Warner Brothers does retain the Columbia/Wilma opening logo, but since they didn't with the Canadian release, why would they with the US release?

Well, they might not have even known about it until it was brought up in this thread. Remember, not a lot of people at the studios now are aware of minutiae like this. Hanna-Barbera themselves had removed the Columbia parody from the movie in the '80's, and likely nobody at the Canadian branch of WB even knew about it when that DVD was released.

Re: WHV Press Release: Hey There, It's Yogi Bear -and- The Man Called Flintstone

I'm sure The Man Called Flintstone will be the identical DVD as already exists. If I'm not mistaken, it was originally intended to be released Stateside but held back apparently due to some licensing issues. Perhaps Columbia's rights on the film were still debated in the US. Despite being an open matte transfer, the film is already restored and looks terrific. I can't imagine WHV covering the cost to remaster a second time for DVD.

As for Yogi... I can't wait to see how this looks! Just wish they would have used the original poster art for the cover instead of the horrible off-model giant Yogi face!
